Default Just bought a new subaru!! ext. warranty question

Just last week, I purchased a new '04 Subaru RS25.

I'm happy.

The dealership is giving me time to think about the "Added Security", ie the Extended Warranty options. I need to decide soon, so if I decide yes...they'll give me a 20% discount on the ext. warranty because of the new car purchase.

There are so many options:

In the Gold Plus Plans (w/o the discount) range from:
7yr/100k plans run:
$2,460 - $0 Deductible
$2,150 - $50 Deductible
$1,950 - $100 Deductible

to:

3yr/45k plan run:
$600 - $0 Deductible
$450 - $50 Deductible
$350 - $100 Deductible

I'm just curious to find out what people did or did not purchase and/or a recommendation on which one I should choose (if any).

Thank you.

I didn't get the extended warranty for my 2000. I've had no problems either. It's a waste of money IMO, but you never know. A lot of the earlier RS guys have had engine, tranny, wheel bearing issues, but you would want to see exactly what is covered on each policy.

I didn't get the extended warranty on my 04 WRX, but I did get the Road Hazard stuff. Only because I live in an area with *****y roads or lack of roads all together. Only God knows why I pay 3.5% wage tax to this city.

Anyway, IMO, if you have the extra cash to spend, might as well get the extended warranty, it can't hurt.

You have until your 36 month/36k mile warranty runs out to buy the Subaru Added Security, and you can buy it from any authorized Subaru dealer. Thus, you can wait a couple of years to decide how much/hard you are driving it, then find a dealer online who will sell it to you for 40% or so off list price. Cost to dealer is 50% or less of list price.

We got it on ours, but paid 1,100 (it may be for 6 years) and 0 deductible
If you can wait, as armand1 states, then that's an option too.
We purchased a subaru warranty when we bought our OBW (used) in '97 - took the $50 deduct - only needed for 3 things (water pump, alternator and a fuel sensor in the tank) and all were covered, so even with the $150 out of pocket, the warranty paid for itself.
If you opt for the warranty, at the prices you're showing, personally I'd take the $50 deductible.

I got the 6 years/60,000 miles extended warranty. (I only drive ~7,000 ish miles a year.) I got it because this was the first year of usdm sti, and also because I'm not planning on modding it. And I financed it so it was only a few bucks more per month.

Yeah, just wait until before the 3/36 warranty expires to worry about this. At that point, you can better decide if it's worth the trouble. You can easily find them for up to 40% off on the internet.

Personally, I never buy the extended warranty. They are 100:1 more likely to benefit the dealer than you on a car like Subaru.

If you get the warranty, be aware that Subaru offers an extended warranty of their own. My piss-ass dealership sold me some extended warranty from another company. It may not matter to you, but had I known that there was a SOA warranty I would have gone that route.

(I ended up cancelling my warranty, because I plan on doing some anti-warranty work on the car in the next year or so).

I got my warranty from www.warrantydirect.com
Like others have said you have plenty of time to decide. Extended warranties are basically all profits for a dealer. They sometimes are real pushy in order to get you buy them, that way they can fluff your monthly payment on the car.
You have time to decide so shop around.

I've never had one and think its a waste of money. Subarus are very reliable so you are unlikely to come out ahead.

I bought the 6 year on mine, but I don't know why because, I will be doing some warranty voiding work.
Just curious this might be a stupid question.
What I bought the extended warranty (which I did). I mod the car, needs to have warranty work done, they say they won't because of mods, can I get my money back on the warranty?

Stiffler,
Check and see if you can cancel the warranty and get a refund - I think you can.

I'm leasing my 2004 WRX for 36 months w/ 15K miles per year. To me it made sense to get an extended warranty since the standard warranty would only cover me to 36K miles. I don't think anything will happen since Subaru's are rather reliable but I am not taking a chance.

You can't buy an extended warranty even from other companies? That's quite common here.
