Talking These Tires any good on ice?

I got a feeling they might be a little rough on dry pavement. Gonna have to keep them on the ice!

Yeowza! I'd hate to be the technician that had to balance those tires and wheels! ZING! Ooops, there goes my finger!

Have fun. Snap some pics of those bad-boys shredding up the ice!!!

I actually waited until the tires were mounted before I sharpened them. I still had a difficult time finding a tire shop that would mount these for me though. Ice race is on Saturday, counting down the minutes until then!

P.S. Balancing was not an option!

Race Location: Side Lake, Minnesota (about 30 miles north of Hibbing)

Last I heard, the ice was 18 inches thick.

Tom, where in Westland are you at? I'm off Joy Rd. between Newburgh and Wayne. There's a few ice races that the Saginaw Valley region is putting on up in Saginaw Bay. Once I get back from Minnesota, I plan on hitting a few of those as well.

Middlebelt & Ann Arbor Trail. I saw 'The Motor City' for location, so I thought I'd ask, since it doesn't seem like the ice would be safe enough around here for spikes like those. After all, I think Clegg was the one who put his car in the water on normal tires.

Ouch! What class are you in? 14mm is the most that they allow out here.

Bayley: I'm in Westland too (for the moment anyway) at Cherry Hill and Venoy. I'd love to come over some time and check out those tires/your car.

This past weekend, there was an '04 STi that had a set of studded snow tires (Hakkapalita H1's... I think) at the ice race I went to. The average tires for 4WD cars were from 75 to 65 seconds on this 1/2 mile road course. The STi put down many times between 62 and 60 seconds. Very impressive indeed. However, my picked 2004 plane Jane WRX put down a best time of 39.19 seconds... and a worse time of 40.84 seconds. There was only one vehicle (out of about 50) that was quicker than my WRX, and that was a fully prepped ice racing snowmobile. His best time was 35.89 seconds.

If you are big into ice racing, there is no other choice for tires.
