Cool BPM verses JUN 1/4 mile battle

I was talking to Greg the other day & excited to hear they are on the verge of taking JUN'S record. Here is what he told me.
" In the 1/4 mile we currently run second fastest in the world at 11.1. This is without nitrous & running street tires.
This is also running all WRX parts with the EJ20 engine although running our strengthened gearset & clutch we develop for these applications. The Subaru has many
inherent weak points & the skill lies in
addressing those points rather than attaining more HP. BPM car runs about 750-820HP depending on boost level.
We may take the record of JUN very soon
(maybe today or tomorrow)."
I believe JUN is doing this with a 2.5.
It sounds like they know what they are doing. We will soon be running some of
thier products on my WRX.

You told me, it was similar setup to mine ?

New pistons, rods, crank, uprated fuel... large turbo... etc...etc...

This is Mim Rigoli's car, NOT BPM's. While I believe BPM is now supplying the Rigoli's with their new "twister" muffler, I do not think this justifies taking credit for what the Rigoli's have built out of their own shop.

Of course I don't know the entire context of the conversation, or how their involvement was implied but I don't understand why a company would try and IMHO wrongfully take credit for someone else's work. Who knows, maybe they said "The WRX we sponsor in Oz is about to break JUN's record" in which case that's true. They sponsor the Rigoli car as well as quite a few other shops who've for obvious reasons have jumped on the bandwagon.

What really upsets me though is that they do NOT build the gearsets for Mim. I build nearly identical gearsets for the North American cars and I've spent time talking with the few WRX gearset manufacturers in the world, including the one who build's the ones in Australia. They might sell that same gearset built by the Aust. manufacturer under their own name(which is ok), but to say they developed it is a lie.

Hopefully this was all a misunderstanding and I'm over-reacting to the whole situation. I've just had this happen to me in the past (someone else taking credit) so I'm a bit sensitive to it I guess. And don't think I'm upset at you Pam, I'm not out to shoot the messanger. I just think you might want to clear up with Greg exactly what he meant by what he said.

Trey, Thanks for the info this morning. I had
no reason to doubt what Greg told me, but
I understand the situation a bit better now.
We will still sell there products as I think
they are good as we want to offer the best
products that we can.

I have this question, why are WRX so slow in a 1/4? I mean To run 11.1 they needed 750-820HP? Good good! There are hundreds of 1G and 2G AWD DSMs that are running low 11s. I don't beleive they have 800hp and they are heavier. So, whats the deal?

Yes, Pam is right. BPM offers good products and we shouldn't forget that. I was just trying to clear the air about some of the facts that might have been confused regarding the Rigoli car.

As for HP needed to run low 11s in a Subaru, I don't think they're making the power that Greg is claiming...at least when they ran 11s. According to the last information I saw from the Rigoli's, they were making about 400 or so to the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. That equates to about 460 wheel HP if run on our DynoJet units (DD Dynos read lower). So, that might help answer you question. Also, for reference the Rigoli's car runs 11.1 @ 124.9 mph with a 1.6 60' time. The MPH is about right for a mid 400 RWHP car. If he was making 750+ engine HP, he'd most likely run in the 145-150mph range which, with that 60', should put him in at a solid 9 in the 1/4.

There's another guy down in Australia who's supposely making some grand engine HP number (650-700??) that's being built at CAS but he's yet to prove it at the track. I think he's claiming he'll run 9's but we'll have to wait and see.

So, to answer the question I don't think the Subaru has to make more power than a DSM to run the times. It's just that not many people are making the power to do it. Things will change though and you'll see more and more 10 second and maybe even 9 second Subaru's before too long. It's not a question of if it'll happen, it's just when and who.
