As I remember, the Bananna Splits were NOT a cartoon - they were live action! Since I don't have cable or a dish, I don't know if what they're talking about is the real deal or a remake. My motto:
"IF YOU'RE PAYING FOR TV, YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH!"

Siper,
I still can't help but LMAO when I see the episode when Wiley puts on that helmet with the one roller skate wheel, to roll down that high tension wire (on his head) to catch the roadrunner.
He spends about thirty seconds steadying himself and then the cable snaps.

And who could forget earthquake pills?

Wile E Coyote Soooooper Geeeeeenius.

It's pretty bad when the O/T's get O/T! Weren't we talking about the Bananna Splits?
Not that I don't like the other ones too, I'm just amused by the whiners who complain when we don't talk about Imprezas because it's "O/T" and now the O/T is O/T!! Personally, I find the O/Ts to be some of the funniest and most creative stuff on the board. Oh, an I getting O/T?

Let's see....Rules for the Road Runner Series: (From Chuck Amuck, The Life & Times of An Animated Cartoonist) By Chuck Jones, Copyright 1989 by Chuck Jones Enterprises. ISBN 0-380-71214-8. Published by Avon Books)

Rule 1: The road runner can not harm the coyote except by going "Beep Beep!"
Rule 2: No outside force can harm the coyote - only his own ineptitude or the failure of the the acme products.
Rule 3: The coyote could stop anytime - IF he were not a fanatic. (Repeat: "A fanatic is one who redoubles his effot when he has forgotten his aim." - George Santayana)
Rule 4: No dialogue ever, except "Beep-Beep!" Rule 5: The road runner must stay on the road - otherwise, logically, he would not be called road runner.
Rule 6: All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters - the southwest american desert.
Rule 7: All materials, tools, weapons, or mechanical conveniences must be obtained from the acme corporation.
Rule 8: Whenever possible, make gravity the coyote's greatest enemy.
Rule 9: The coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.

There ya have it...

From one self proposed Chuckahaulic.

If you're interested in Road Runner, Bugs, Daffy, light reading material, this is the book to get.

Great behind the scenes look on all of the cartoons, and many of the animators and developers who made the WB cartoons soo great.

So one more question....who said the following line:

"Hey, that you, Earth? We have just passed the Dog Star at two million miles and shifting into second . . . and putting her in automatic pilot."

And then...

"Jumping Jupiter going by now . . . Am putting her into automatic pilot."

Oops...wait that wasn't in the animation, only in the script....

But you can guess who said it...now go and read it again and figure out why it never made it in....

North:Great Memory Man. I used to love Pole Position on saturday mornings--They don't make anything cool like that anymore--only pokemon stuff-- the best place to get some good toons is Cc at 2 am in the morning on saturday---don't ask---.
And M.A.S.K. wa sgreat too--always wanted one of those things, for real though.
Battle of the planets was a voltron-like show that had a team of "secret Agents" who all dressed up in suits that resembled birds--My favorite was keeopp--Didn't speak english jus this kind of blippbeep language.

I was gonna wait to se if anyone else would mention it first but what about ROBOTECH-Macross???

Your Right North--reeeeaalllyyyy showing our age

That's it- Battle Of The Planets! One had a race car, one a plane, Keopp had that stupid little tank, the chick had the motorcycle. Reminds me of the cartoon "Thunderbirds, 2086." It was all done up by computer and from the early 80's, and aired on Saturday opposite "The Mighty Orbots." I can't believe we all remember this stuff. It is kind of refreshing though. One of my other all-time favorites was ROBOTECH. Man, what can't the Japanese come up with? That show was like an animated soap opera, and it kicked AKIRA's ass anyday!

One was this Cool AS HELL looking sports car w/gullwing doors-the other looked like a trumped up mustang. They were a crime fighting traveling stunt show???????

There was a "Hot Wheels" show with a white car called the Jack Rabbit. The lead looked and sounded a lot like Freddie on Scooby Doo. Anyone else remember this one?

I wouldn't say I'm quite 30, butI remember the Banana Splits vaugely; my mom wouldn't let me watch it and said it was trash; so I don't know much about it.

What I did watch was a lot of the old Warner Bros cartoons on Saturday mornings, along with whatever flavor of the year (Rubik the Amazing Cube, Mighty Orbots, Pandemonium, etc).

After school the fringe networks (now all either Fox or UPN affiliates these days) had the more edgy stuff: Speed Racer, Tranzor Z, and other Japanese reprints. I kind of liked Thunderbirds 2086 back then because of the variety of environments they had to face and the fact the plot developed a bit at a time even though each episode was pretty much self contained. I think I easily watched more cartoons than live action while growing up (and I haven't timed it out but I may still do so today).

Danger Mouse was great; but the most memorable mid-80s export was Robotech. Maybe it was around the impressionable ages of 10-12 but I loved that show. In college it was Robotech that made me look into the web (to see if anyone had any information about the show) and got me into HTML back in 94 (Arrgh, that was SIX years ago! It seems like forever). Robotech web sites got me interested in the university's animation club, which in turn got me hooked on anime. The web got me into computers in general, so I guess I owe that show a lot.

Robotech...damn it's been a long time. Remember Rick and Minmay (sp?)? I remember one of the early episodes where he had to float outside to get them out of that cargo hold. I always liked that skull squadron plane with the black tail.

What about the show with that space battleship, the Yamamoto. Is that Robotech? Huge 'cannon' in the bow and could transform into some kinda robot? That was a cool show.

Dave

Damn, I better sweep the sidewalks of Memory Lane a little better. I don't know where I'm going.

Robotech was cool, but Danger Mouse is the unquestionable ruler of all cartoons!!
and yes, therefore, I remember them as well. (despite being younger than most of you, at only 22)

Catfish, the Yamato was the ship from Starblazers, and Hucker, I believe you are thinking of Jetfire (the white autobot Jet) and his design was squarely stolen from the ROBOTECH series, which has been in Japan since about 81 I believe. In the US, Robotech comprised 3 series, while overseas I belive it made it to 6. All GREAT stuff though everyone! This has to be my favorite off topic off topic thread yet!

I am also putting the challenge out. Can any of you, who can vaguely remeber the 1980's figure out what cartoon show I take my nickname from (no, my name isn't North, it's actually Brian). I will reward the correct answer with.... A HERRING!!!! OK, no herring, but how about a cookie? Maybe a box of cookies? Those great girl scout ones with the coconut, caramel, and fudge?
