Lightbulb 1991 Legacy Turbo! Cheap, Cheap!

I've located another screamin deal on a Rio Red 1991 Legacy Sport Sedan (a twin of mine) that's For Sale in the Tampa, Florida area.

The car has tranny issues (It's an auto) and won't go over 50mph (High Clutch?). The body is in better shape than my '91, has the original alloys, tinted windows, runs good. The owner said he doesn't expect to get more than $1000 for it and he is very negotiable. If I had the room I'd buy it myself....but alas...3 cars at my house is almost to much, 4 would get me disowned by the other half!

Here's what I know about the car...

I first spotted it about a year ago at our local Publix (Grocery store) parking lot, I had been stalking it hoping it would be put up for sale...then I found my Legacy on ebay and stopped stalking it. One of the local Scooby guys here in Tampa (Xeno) was asking if I knew of any Legacy Turbos in the area for sale a few weeks ago so I went and left a note on the Legacy at the Publix. The owner called me that night and said it was his car, and his daughter had been driving it back and forth to work, but he wanted to get her something else soon. I asked him to contact me as soon as he decided to sell it.

He e-mailed me the week of New Years, said the car was having problems and wanted to know if I was still interested. I relayed the info to Xeno who has been in contact with the owner, but Xeno decided to pass so i thought I'd let the other "enthusiast's" here know about it. I've asked Xeno to post any further info he knows about the car in the thread, hopefully he will soon.

The body is in good shape, average dings for a 12 year old car but the paint is decent, the wing and hood scoop are still red, factory alloys and decent tires. All the lights, trim & glass is intact and I've never noticed any rust. That's really about all I know!

If I could get it, I'd go to the local U-pull yard and find a AWD tranny out of a Legacy and pull it ( tranny's are only $49!!!) drop that in the Legacy to make it driveable then worry about repairing the turbo tranny later. But I have been banned from adding any more cars to the "collection" no matter what the potential (I could also use quite a few parts!)

I would bet he'd let it go for $700-$800 easy.

If anyone is seriously interested send me an e-mail and I'll give you his contact info, I just don't feel right about posting it since I didn't ask if it would be OK.

i wish i had extra $$ or space or the time to drive it back from FL... cuz I'd take it. Got plenty of red cars to go around.

it's got a very crunchy second gear, and would make a great dogbox or strengthened gear swap...

scooby south has dibs...I need it out of my garage.\

I'm looking for 300.

It would make an awesome $2004 Grassroots Motorsports car...

Car - $700
Junkyard tranny - $49

That's only $749 for a running car!

Sell me the wing and the hood for $150 + trade and now you've only got $599 into it and over $1400 left to max out the $2004 limit!

That's pretty much all I know...if Xeno sees this he'll probably have more info, mileage, etc.

I will say this, if this car and the car I have were both sitting side by side for $800 when I was ready to buy....I would have bought this one instead of the one I got...

Grr... I hate being broke. I have a grand total of $77 to my name and a $188 ticket to pay next month. This sucks. I'm gonna have to see if I can find a deal like this around here.....

Once I get money, of course.

Don't bother entering it into the $2004 challenge.... You'd lose to the XT6!!!

Will.. if you see any XT6 stuff please let me know. I need the high beam switch on the left side of the column. A red front right fender would be nice too... but I'm not picky.

Well I'm about 85% sure this car will be sold in the next week or so when I'm up that way. I just have to convince the wife we need a 3rd car. I may just buy it keep the rear diff. and motor, part out the rest.
