Default WRX w/ 255/40R17 V700 What tire pressure?

I tried searching the forums but could not find any threads on suggested tire pressures for 255/40R17 Kumho Victoracer on a WRX. Does anyone have any suggested tire pressures?

What size do they typically run? 235s on the 16's?

I have 255/40/17 victoracers sitting in my living room waiting for the wheels for them to arrive.

Why not run 255s? Its the biggest you can fit on a 8.5" rim without too much ballooning.

I didn't say it couldn't be done... only person I've seen is Red Rocket that had done it but just that not many people did.

Anyway, I'd think you'd want to run a little bit lower than if you had smaller treadwidth tires just to get more rubber on the ground. But it's all related to handling.

Screamin, I hope you're only using those on the track, at autocross your gearing is going to be pretty freaking high.

actually, kuhmo's website said that the diameter for the 255/40/17 victos is 24.8" which is 0.1" less than our stock diameter. So it shouldn't be any less gearing than when I was running my 225/50/16 kumho MX's...

Yeah 255/40/17 is what you want, if it was 255/50 then the gearing would be very bad.

On what size rim?

I think I may get you on this one

On a 7.5" rim those are going to be a little taller than on a 9" which is probably closer to the optimal size for that tire.

heheh

i dunno. I did order White 17x8.5" Advan RG's

Its a little less than optimal, but i'll make due. I just want to try and max the camber without rubbing on my JICs.

Should clear the strut housing okay since you have 2mm less offset than me... hope you got the fender rolling machine ready

My situation is probably completely different than yours, but what the hell...

I use 225/50/16 Victoracers on stock USDM WRX rims for track days (no autox yet). I start at 34 psi cold all around and they generally go to 42 psi hot. My car is set up to be neutral, not to rotate. Excessive rotation is not a good thing at 130.

You'd probably want to start with a little higher pressure since an on track session for me is 20-25 minutes to get that 8 psi hot.

Good luck,

Scott

I ran my 265/45/16 Victo's @ 38 cold.. and they'd go to 43-45 hot. Fairly decent around there.

Do you mind if I ask where you bought your Advan RG's?

Thanks,
Fitz

I don't mind at all. I got them from gruppe-s. They stock the gold ones, but I'm not a fan of white and gold, especially when I have black subaru rally graphics on the car (white car).

Hopefully the body shop that is repairing my front fender and painting/installing my body kit can alter the fenders to fit the wheels if there is any rubbing.

Lastly, rubbing is a little less of an issue because I got 600lb Eibach ERS springs going on my JIC's.

I've flared the fenders on the car 2.5" on all corners. Currently running a Borbet Type-T in a 16x9" +30 flavor. Fits great. +43 is too high for me. To run an 8.5" rim in the same location as the current 9" +30 rim, the offset would have to be as low as +23-24mm. Hella low.

On top of that, I have plenty of room to fit a 9" rim and could squeeze a 9.5" if I had to. I'd like to run 275 series tires for One Lap this year.

Oh wow, thats awesome. I wanna do one lap, but I need more HPDE's for practice first. How did you flare the fenders? You think a body shop can do that for me?

Anything is possible with time, money, and Charlie North.

I'll try and post some pics either tonight or tomorrow.
