I hope they don't cut any time off! Thats one of the shows we really watch! I think they need to cut some nascar(nascrap) down and add Quarter Midget racing on!!!! My son 8 years old drives the ONLY one SUBARU Quarter Midget!!! He does'nt even like nascar! He wants to drive for SUBARU! When he gets older! That is his goal!!!!!

Quality > Quantity

I said this a couple years ago when Speed had the hour long daily recaps, plus the hour long rally recap. 4 1/2 hours of shows for each rally.

How much in-car filler clips can you watch really?

Indeed!
But the most frustrating this - the thing that threatens to give me an aneurysm - is that they'll replay the same clips in a 1 or 2 hr show!
I mean, really- they must have absolutely hours of footage from *each* team car on *each* stage- there's really no excuse for doubling up any of that shown...

Sorry, just a pet peeve,
RRR

I think that the Speed person's response should be taken at face value: "If we didn't do it, nobody would, and some coverage is better than nothing."

As I read it, he wasn't being jerky, nor was he making any allusions to the primacy of NASCAR on Speed, but that's just me.

No, I work for Logic.

It's the same reason I attempt to bring people around to reason on so many topics on NASIOC. I admit to not seeing why someone has to be affiliated with someone/thing simply because they suggest that no offense was intended. Think about it: Why would someone voluntarily offend a "customer," unless they didn't care about that person's business? Speed Channel is not in that position, which is why the customer service person responded to the email. Try emailing ABC or CBS about a programming change, and see what you get.

Many members of this group offend easily, and go taking off after windmills when a bit of circumspection would be in order. But this situation also goes to show that words can have many interpretations. The Speed person (I am fairly certain, unless they are reprehensibly stupid, as the original email sent in no way necessitates any belligerence in reponse) wanted the original emailer to do precisely what he suggested: Consider the alternative, which is NO WRC coverage. It's as simple as that, in my book.

I wish I did work for Fox, frankly. That corporation is rocking the house right now. But hey, I've been accused of working for Subaru and DMS in the past, also. For the record, I don't.

I guess I don't fall into the "All hail SPEED for airing any WRC" camp. I'm happy they broadcast what they do, but am not happy with the 2nd (or 3rd) class service it (and everything non-NASCAR) gets. I'm not surprised by this, but I'm not about to cheer loudly for broadcasting lousy coverage of what I like to watch.

The UK spectator is not happy with this change. I hope we dont end up with Jim Rosential as anchor, that guy gives me the creeps.

But we get what the rest of the world gets, except for places lucky enough to have it broadcast live. That's one of the things I'm saying. Speed Channel isn't taking five hours of excellent coverage and boiling it down. They are airing what they get. The Grist/Mallory voiceovers are easy things to insert.

Speed Channel also gave WRC the same time slot evey airing, and in prime time. Fans knew when it was going to be on, which was very nice. I don't think that's 2nd or 3rd class at all, as those who used to have to chase the WRC programming around the Speedvision (back then...) broadcasting schedule certainly remember. Never mind waiting until months after the season, to buy the season overview shows (90 minutes, the whole season) from Duke Video.

I've been following WRC since 1994, and we have had it really good since 2000, when Speed really made a commitment to this programming. Is it unfortunate that it's changing? Perhaps. I'll reserve judgment until I see the shows. A nicely-done 90-minute show can beat a three-hour show all to heck and back.

There were the same rantings when the rumors began that Speed Channel was going to go all-NASCAR, and the spittle flew across the bandwidth. Well, anyone who watched the WRC coverage, motorcycles, live F1 and (these days) German and British touring car coverage, knows this isn't the case. Speed does very well at giving us what we like to watch, but I'm saying that from the perspective of being able to watch the programming from year to year through fresh eyes.

The Brit blokes were better commentators, however....but for the aficionado, not the real person that Speed has to reach to be able to justify keeping WRC on the air. The email in question alluded to the piddling ratings that the WRC programming gets (don't get me started on the tyranny of the Nielsen boxes). But with the inroads being made by digital cable, for all we know, there is actually a way now for our cable providers to know what we are or aren't watching.

I don't think it's as much "all hail Speed," as it is appreciating what we have. If they don't air it, who will? I can see the entire WRC season getting a half-hour show on NBC or something, Saturday afternoon after NBA Inside Stuff.

When they are trying to put out a show on the same day as the event there is no way to review all that footage and edit in time for the show. It takes a long time to review the hours of tapes from each camera man, each in car, the interviews, the scenics, and the amatuer submissions, etc. Same day or even end of the rally coverage is not enough time to be thorough.
That is why there was mosty in car footage when they were doing the same day shows, because of the lack of time to review and the in car shots would reveal the interesting moments that the stage cameras might miss, so they would go through that footage first
That is why I have always said the best shows were from 2001 and earlier as they took about two weeks to produce the show which allowed them to make a really slick production

I don't think I explained myself very well; I don't mind some in-car footage, I quite enjoy it actually.
But if they show 60 seconds of Markko, say, running SS 5, near Split time B during coverage, later in the same show DON'T show Markko running SS 5, near Split time B AGAIN - show Petter on that SS!!
Show Gilles on that SS!
Hell, even Freddy- but don't show the same damned footage they already showed!!!

That's my point, they did not have time to look at all the footage so they had to fill it with what they were able to look at.
I think 2002 was the worst I prefer to wait a week and get a good show than have same day coverage that is not so good. Ended up finding the results out anyway on the internet.

Shows were much better for 03 though

Wanna hear funny? They had bobsledding on Speed today. I heard the announcer (don't remember who it was) say "Its kinda like NASCAR" 3 times in @ 10 minutes.

When I flicked on Speed I thought it was a NASCAR race because the sleds are so much like them.

I was actually watching the ROC show on the '02 race prior to the sleds. I loved the in-car of Jeff Gordon riding with Marcus. Do you think Marcus ever heard the term "frickin" before that?

Actually, the US sleds for the Olympics two years ago were designed by a NASCAR engineer.

Anybody know anything about the WorldSport Channel? They have it available through Voom HD. I couldn't find much out about it though.

That's part of my problem- I wanna find out while watching ! Me and a coupla buddies would watch it together and root for/against drivers. The whole deal- yelling at the tv, etc... (kinda how most guys watch football.. )

I haaated waiting a week to find out, it was killing me trying not to learn the results. I'd avoid Nasioc and other forums in my attempt to not know.
But you're right, Mopho, I admit they were better shows. Watching those now, I enjoy them more!
But I can't handle the effort to not know!
Heh.

Yes, someone always blows it on the forums Big time rude when they announce it in the thread title

I tend to follow it on the live rally web pages (especially when I knew someone competing).

Moving it to Wednesday might be a good thing, actually. Since the recce didn't start until today, I don't know how much footage on the new cars they could get before now -- and I want to see the new liveries! With the program airing later, maybe it will have less old, canned footage and we can get a glimpse at the new stuff?

blah ... its probably just another name for rally xs ... which has nothing about MC, but just talk about stuff like team movement, driver line up, stuff drivers did between rally gb and now, etc. They don't need to wait for the rally, its probably already made anyway.
Besides, its the principle, they just changed it on the fly. This is worse than them extending those stupid nascar qualification shows way into the rally xs time slot. Luckily I didn't use a good tape to tape it.

BTW, looks like the actual rally is in a 1.5hr slot (not one hr)
