Talking If you're from South Jersey, or just want to laugh, read this.

This site is a laugh riot, why? Because I associate with about 98 of the 104 things on this list. Oh, and I can drive to 18 Wawas from my house.

hehe, ya, I', from South Jersey, Somers Point, over the bridge from Ocean City, and 15 mins south of Atlantic City to be exact. I know what a shoe-bie is, that's for sure, and I make fun of them all the time. I was baffled when I moved out here and couldn't find a place to eat at 3 am, people thought I was odd when I said "where's the MAC machine", I curse up a $#!% storm while driving, I can say Buena right, and I've counted the strip clubs on the Black Horse Pike, got up to 8 before I couldn't keep track.

Damn! that was just uncanny. I remember going through culture shock when I moved here because of the things on that list. I also remember I laughed so hard soda came out my nose the first time I saw "Wawa"

http://www.wawa.com

that doesn't do it justice, it really kicks ass. If you need something at 4am, they'll have it.

Here's a classic South Jersey coversation at 1am.
"Yo, I'm hungry."
"wanna run to wawa and grab some grub"
"ya, I can go for a meatball hogie but I don't have any cash"
"dude, just tap MAC while you're there"
"ok, let's go"

Of course, what you should really want to know is "what's a Shoe-bie?"

hehe

yea, MAC is ATM. MAC = Money Access Center

I think one of the funniest ones is:
103. In your mind you hear "watch out for the tram car please" even in your sleep.

I remember going to Wildwood and hearing that damn phrase over and over and over again. I started to yell at people standing in the way of it.

This one's funny:
87. One time you were driving in the woods and got stuck in sand.

Because in my first car (A Subaru GL) I got stuck in some.

OK heres the deal, Shoe-bie got started back in the 20's or 30's after or around the crash of the stockmarket. Since south jersey is a vacation area.(Ocean City is americas greatest family resort) People from Philly and eastern PA used to travel on the train down to the shore. When they did it was a day trip, so they would bring their lunch in a shoe box.(since everyone was broke) Hense the word shoe-bie. I am no expert about the subject but everyone from jersey and phila area have names like that. Like piney's, clamdiggers. Everyone from that area is from a differant mold. Hey Wolve 80, I am from Marmora. I graduated from Ocean City High and was born in Atlantic City. Did you go to Mainland? I used to date a girl from Somers Point when I was in High School. My Uncle lives in Somers Point. I am moving back to Upper Township in a couple of weeks I can wait to get the biggest roll of Pork Roll and eat it for a week stright....Hey Keith your right NJ has some of the worst roads in the world. The circles are death traps, potholes like to eat small children. Since I moved out of the area I havent ever had to get a front end alingment. I am sure that will change when I move back. Hey if any of you guys go to the shore drop me a line we'll cruse Ocean Drive, bring your change for the tolls.....

Hey Wolve 80, watch out for the jersey devil!!!!! When I was a kid we used to go camping out a Belplain State part and used to think the JerseyDeveil would get us. Oh by the way the lake out at Belplain is ceder water.... Looks just like a lake of Iced Tea.

yup, I went to Mainland, haha. My mom still lives in Somers Point and I'm gonna be out there to visit soon. I used to live in Ocean City too, but I didn't got the HS there. I also used to live in Galloway Township not far from Jimmy Leeds road, I was about 11 at the time, and we were always scared to go outside because of the NJ Devil. I remember seeing a sign in Mays Landing that had pictures of ducks crossing, along with an image of the Devil.

You're dead on with the Shoe-bie term, it became a derogitory thing twords tourists in general, so if you're from outta state and you piss of a local, be prepared to be called a shoe-bie. The reaction I got from people when I said that was always great.

I hated tourist season considering I lived RIGHT where everyone drove through to get to Ocean City, and when they would try to negotiate the Somers Point Circle I would go nuts. I saw one guy trying to make a left onto the circle once. Every NJ driver that passed him gave him the finger and called him a "f***ing retarded shoe-bie", including us.

Ya, they did do more work on the roads tho, Route 9 is alot better, until you get to Pleasantville (it ain't like the movie), and the AC Expressway is alot better.

I know some roads in Mays Landing that are great for off road excursions, hehe.

It was alot of fun there, and it's defiantly like another small country. I can't wait to get back and visit.

If you remember the Custard Hut that was in Somers Point, I lived two blocks down Penn Ave, and then a left on 6th.

Than you know the girl I was, well call it dating. Her name was Debbie and she lived right near the custard hut off of RT9. Hey let me know when your coming back you can show me those roads in Mays Landing. I know of afew in Cape May county out near Tuckahoe off of RT49 on the way to Millville. What a small world. Have you ever eat'n at Yesterdays over the 34st brigde between OC and Marmora? Pretty good spot. I am leaving here(texas) head'n back to NJ about the second week in July. We gotta let our subie's run out in the jersey swamp(pine barrens) Oh if your old enough do you remember when they made Eddie and the Cruisers down at Tony Marts?

Thumbs up

for sure, the only problem is I might not have my Scooby, I'll prolly fly out, so I'd leave me car here. If I can get a flatbed, hehe, I'll tow it, but I doubt it. I'll prolly rent a car so we can tear that up.
