Default Stock WRX wheels gunmetal? or leave silver on YELLOW WRX

My friend will have a WRX soon. It's yellow and I've been telling him to gunmetal/anarthrite/grayize the stock WRX wheels. Is it me or any one else that thinks a Sonic Yellow WRX with silver wheels is a non contrasting together site? What are the best meathods to spray the wheels? Any tips? and I hear 3m has a new paint out or should VHT wheel paint be used? and hit the wheels with a clear coat can?

Now with 25% more ego!

Arrow here in the NW

I know ErikAnderson sprayed his wheels and it looks pretty sick on his yellow rex. Maybe drop him a PM, I'm sure he'd be glad to lend advice and a pic or two...

personally i think sonic yellow is the most butt ugly color evAR!.... however that being said - throw the stock wheels away, and get something bigger, pick a color from there ;P

some auto body shops will paint wheels for you.. and they'll do it right.. plus they'll have a mess of shades to chose from. My friend whacked a curb with his M roadster and the body shop filled the scrapes and painted the wheel.. you couldn't tell it was messed with.

I powder coated my wheels a color called chrome smoke, like gunmetal but with some bling to them. Everyone loves them and most don't think they really are stock wheels.

Is it too late for your friend to change the color of the WRX? Just kidding. The yellow wagon with the anthracite P7's (Subydude's first link) looks pretty nice.

DamnYank, what headlights do you have? Those look really nice. I have a silver rex and painted my wheels a similar color, but I didn't take the time to mask off the lip. You did a great job!

they are stock headlights, just painted.

you strip down the headlights, toss them i the oven at 200deg for about 20 min, pull them apart, take out the chrome-finished surround, remove the covers for the turn blinker and side marker.

then ya just scuff up and wipe down the surround, hit it with a few coats of semi-gloss hi-temp black paint, let it dry, reassemble (oven again) and you're good to go!

there are tons of threads here with more detail on doing the headlight mod... it really makes a nice change to the cars look with very little cost!

I think that Gunmetal or Black are the best color for rims on a yellow car. Personally I like yellow on black the best. Here is a pic of a local guys yellow Evo with black 5 or 6 spokes. it looks sick.Yellow Evo w/ black wheels
