Default What's The Coolest Valentines Day Promotion You've Seen For A Restaurant?

Have you ever been to a restaurant that did something really different or special for Valentines Day?

Looking for ideas for a friend's restaurant. Pretty upscale place for the most part.

Upscale restaurants rarely have promotions for Valentine's day because they don't need them. They also get booked up VERY fast, so don't waste any time!

I think a pretty obvious one would be to offer special "couples' dishes" for the day. Just set up a few three or four course meals where each plate is designed to be shared by the two people. Appetizer, salad, dinner and dessert....

Maybe throw some cool garnishes on them (things carved into hearts or somethin'). (Edible) flowers in the salad, roses on the tables, not too much garlic in the food ( ). Make sure the dessert is good and chocolatey. Give all the diners a chocolate covered strawberry with their check instead of a mint.

Haha good ones guys. I'm mainly not interested in ways to drive traffic - more on making the experience something that people will want to tell their friends about. Word of mouth is second to none.

Strike up a deal with a local hotel. Dinner for two and a night at the hotel for $100.

A fresh rose for each lady.

Otherwise, Candy is right. The LEAST COMMON day an upscale restaurant would ever have to drum up business is Valentine's Day.

Here's a serious one: A Pris Fix menu, with app, salad, Entree and dessert, and a bottle of Dom Perignon. Price the food courses at full menu price, and add the Dom at cost. Should run about $200 for the couple, which is $50 less than restaurants normally charge for Dom alone.

yeah, most nice places don't need a gimmick on V-day. actually, they can even get away with limited menus that night. i hate that.

And another one. This one will totally wow them:

Take a 16/20 scallop, and cut about an eighth off one part of the circle, so that you have a circle with the "top" arc removed. skewer it with two peeled and deveined U16 shrimp one on each side of the scallop, with the head part of the shrimp up toward the flat part of the scallop, and each shrimp's natural curvature in toward the scallop. Brush with butter, season with blackening seasoning, and blacken. The Shrimp will curl in toward each other, forming a valentine shape. Serve two sets of these on each entree, over a mashed potatos or a bed of cayenne corn. Call them Black Hearts on the menu.

When I waited tables at an upscale restaurant I had a lot of discretion about offering guests certain things, like dessert on the house for example. My manager trusted my judgement, but I usually told him about it and why I was doing it first. On Valentine's Day I usually gave my regulars 2 free glasses of champagne, or the wine of their choice if they didn't like champagne.
Don't do this if you arent willing to offer a half decent champagne though, most customersat upscale splaces know wine, but then again we used to call Valentine's Day "amateur night" because it was the only night of the year that some ppl actually went out to get a decent meal so they'd tip badly and drink lots of white zinfandel and complain about everything being a la carte.
"NO! Salad doesn't come with it you cheap bastige, and I'm sorry our portions aren't served on a wheelbarrow, and there's NO buffet either!"
