the WRX in japan has about 250HP and has a 2.0L

the STi in japan has 280ish HP and also has a 2.0L

beyond that there are styling and suspension differances
they both use the same chassis and parts are interchangable

and thats a good thing for us WRX owners

Recommend you read:

http://www.spdusa.com/wrx_intro.htm

It's mainly talking about the current "New-Age" Imprezas, but it compares it to the earlier ones. Basically, the older body style WRX and STi were closer to each other than are the current ones.

yea all WRX 02-04 in america have exactly interchangeable parts with jdm WRX's and STi's. and vice versa

the jdm WRX's are just a bit better as we all know that all imports from japan are watered down a lot or a bit.

jdm WRX/Sti's have forged internals and twin scroll turbos stock.

theres the type R and type RA sti's and WRX's these are normal WRX's or STi's with little extra's. which include's harden gears different gearing. some years came with closed some came with semi closed it depends on year

Anybody have pics of the Pre-US STi's? They are quite hard to find. Thanks.

Google "subaru impreza gc8 sti" or something similar. It came up with tons of hits for me.

All you need to know about every Impreza!

Type R and RA are also lightened. They didnt come with optional extras like luxury items, im fact i believe they were stripped out.
All Japanese models have different, lower gear ratios as there are no long fast roads in Japan.

From the top of my head, other WRX/STI types:-

UK300
P1
RB
Terzo
S202

There are more, in fact a lot more, and they get confusing.
