so i came across a place that has two engines for sale think are pretty nice. one is a v6 sti engine, with 11k miles on it out of a car that was totalled. It got hit in the back right rear pannel thing. anyway, that engine is 4 grand, and comes with everything but the radiator and a few other pretty cheap and random thigns. Would this be a good buy?
The second option is a V4. it too was hit somewhere on the back and has a perfect engine. i di'dnt ask millage, but the guy said it was pretty low, (thinking 20k-50k), for 3200 bucks. comes with the same as above. Would this be a good buy? or would the other engine be better? My next problem is the install. The guy said it would be pretty easy, i just need to get the wiring harness switched to left hand drive. Does anyone know how to do that, or how much it would cost? ABout the guages(spedo and such), do i avhe to switch to those gauges? or can i keep mine? any help would be awsome. I am looking to do something big to my car towards the end of the summer, bceause i will have the most money. Hopefully enough to do something like above. Anyone got any other suggestiosn? Are usdm wrx engines cheap if you get them out of a totalled car?

I'd go jdm all the way i dont wanna deal with usdm obdII not to mention jdm should have the better turbo. but I'm not 100% sure on that one. are these engines coming out of a wagon or the sedan or coupe the wagon's had the crappier turbo. Does it come with REAR diff and axles? you'll need that . are they both WRX's non sti? labor is easy it drops right in wiring on the other hand takes a long time not really hard if u know how to read diagrams just takes a long time and you gotta know what yoru doing . don't expect to get done in one day it'll take some time to wire this beast

i am pretty sure they are both soming out of an sti. This is just an idea and i don't know for sure what i need for the total swap, or would get from the cars. I dont' think it coems with tthe rear diff and such, but i think that i could get those from the guy for pretty cheap. I have never done anyitng major to a car, i don't even know what diagrams you are talkiing about, lol. so yeah i guess it would take while.
*how much would it cost to get it installed by a shop? I did install my exhaust and do clear corners...hehe, not really the same tho. lol |

yah not the same. a place will charge a few 1000 dollars for the swap I think i've seen 4000? I don't remember because I'm doing my swap
do a search the topic of doing the swap have been covered 100's of times as far as what's a better deal? I'm not sure theres so many options in the v6 compared to 4 both have about the same amount of HP I think. but the v6 should have the DCCD ask if it has it andddddd DO a search find the differences and what ever is more wroth more to you. |

most parts are interchangable ((is that spelled right?)) with the usdm EJ20's I've heard subies are like lego's? if I need a part I can always look what else is usable like from a turbo legacy or something. diagrams are going to be a little hard to come by but not impossible theres places that are more than willing to help source a diagram

The Ver. 4 also could have DCCD, but only the R's and RA's usually came with it, same story with the Ver. 6. Doubt it matters though because for that price he's not getting a $2,000+ tranny. I'm pretty sure I know where you want to buy those from and I've heard something about water damage with them hence the cheap prices.
