Default diamond black finish

I am wondering how to achieve a "diamond black" finish or similar finish on my wheels, does anyone know how this finish is applied? There are a couple of wheels with this type of finish out there. I am not looking for shiny black, I am looking for a black chrome type finish. Thanks for any help, CHRIS.....

OK thanks, but where do I get it done? Will BBS redo a set of wheels at their place in Georgia? Do they still have diamond black, thanks, CHRIS.......

Reviving an old topic. Interesting that Luke said the plasma looks like regular chrome - I've seen the Plasma finish on the Mustang fitment RKs and to me it looks like black chrome (or at least not like regular chrome). Maybe we'll call it grey chrome - maybe it's not as dark as black chrome? But it's certainly got some shading to it.

Anyway, does anyone know of any wheel reconditioning places that can do Diamond Black or Plasma? I think I'm more interested in Diamond Black, really. I'm considering getting my RKs refinished and I think the DB would look sweet on my silver car. It's been a long time since I've seen the Plasma wheels in person, but I think they're too chrome-y for my car. Maybe if I had a black car I could pull off the Plasma, but I don't think I'd like it on a silver car.

So, has anyone had a Diamond Black BBS wheel refinished, and if so, where did you have it done?

Thanks,
Pat Olsen

Is diamond black similar to hyper black, or is it darker? I would think they would be pretty close in color.

Well, every company has their own version of these colors, so it's tough to say. When I emailed Wheel Collision Center about duplicating the BBS Plasma color (which some might refer to as a "black chrome"), they referred me to their page showing Hyper Black finishes.

Edit: Looking at some stuff on Tire Rack's website, it looks like Enkei's Hyper Black is similar to BBS' Diamond Black. The BBS Plasma is a dark chrome.

As far as I know, those types of finishes that BBS uses can not be replicated in the United States due to EPA regulations. Europe does not have as stringent air quality standards from what I am told. I had a set of Rotas done in black chrome powdercoat, it was more of a gunmetal type color, check em here. http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showp...27&postcount=3
