Default Stock lug nuts on Subzeros?

Does anyone know if you can use your stock lug nuts on Rota subzeros? I have some 17 x 7.5 on the way and have heard conflicting answers. Any owners of these rims using the stock lug nuts?

I use stock lugs and Subaru locks with mine. No problems...

Well, you *can* technically use the stock lug nuts, but I wouldn't. The seating area is all wrong. You need 'tuner lugs' with a more pronounced conical taper. I use these from Suby Dude and they work great:

Good luck,

Scott

I'm almost positive Suby Dude carries them in black...did you try his web site? If you don't see them, shoot Joe an e-mail. If he doesn't have them, he can surely get them.

What is the benefit of the conical lugs? If you *can*as you say, use the stock ones, what is the detriment? Do you just use the conical ones for peace of mind? I would like to know the specific reasons because if the stocks will work without problems why would anyone buy aftermarket? Just looking to keep the stockers unless there are any verified problems with doing so.

Well, the stock lug nuts will still fit on the studs and thread all the way down to the wheel...so they still technically 'fit'.

Put one of your Subzeros and one of your stock rims on the ground next to each other, and place a factory lug nut over a single hole on each. Take a close look at the interface between the two lug nuts and wheel surfaces and you'll see what I'm talking about. The angles are all wrong.

You might be perfectly happy with the stockers. I track my car a lot and I wanted a lot more surface area than the stockers provided on my Subzeros, but then again that's just my opinion.

And as to why someone would want to go aftermarket, there are lots of other reasons besides fit. Weight, exotic materials, color, locking, splined, open ended, etc. are all good reasons. Those duralumin ones above are super super light, which is why I like them...along with the fact that they don't rust like the POS stock ones.

Gluck...

Ok...that being said, disregarding appearance there is really no functional reason to replace the lug nuts? I could care less about the look and weight of my lug nuts. As long as they are going to thread all the way down I'll be happy. If anyone has had a functionality problem due to the stock nuts, please let me know.

Another reason I was given is that stockers will do some damage because they lack the rotating collars of McGard's, as an example. This might only be a consideration when reselling the blemished/gouged wheels. That said, I am having a bunch of trouble buying a set of these "sold-out" lugs.
