Default "Fuel Door Open" indicator

This morning when I started my Baja up, the Fuel Door Open indicator was on. Not knowning that I had a "Fuel Door Open" indicator, I thought....COOL! No more driving down the highway looking like an idiot.

Funny thing was, I got out to check the fuel door and it was closed. I opened and closed it a few times and the indicator wouldn't go off. I also checked the switch on the inside of the fuel door to see if it was sticking and it wasn't. So I guess there is a connection problem somewhere. Has anyone had this problem and, if so, were you able to fix it on your own? I don't plan to take it back to the dealer just to fix an indicator.

I remember someone saying you need to reset your computer at the dealer to get that warning lights off... Well, I'm not sure about that either, so why don't you call the dealer? Wouldn't hurt to call.

Huh, mine does not come on when I do leave the door open... I just thought the option was not available on my Baja (2004 Turbo). I guess I need to visit the dealer and have this fixed. I do find that the flapping of the fuel lid against the car does serve as an adequate warning...

Are you sure that isn't the low fuel light?

It's not the low fuel light. The low fuel light is red and is right next to the fuel guage. This light which says "Fuel Door" is green and is at the bottom center of the speedometer. When I open the fuel door, there is a button that gets depressed when the door closes. I'm assuming this would be the button that is supposed to turn the indicator light off.

I looked in my manual and the manual says nothing about this indicator light...which is weird.

OK.....now I feel really STUPID. Today is the first day that I've driven my Baja in the sunlight in a long time (I leave for work in the dark and get home in the dark). Now that I could see the instrument panel in the daylight, I noticed that the words "Fuel Door" are painted in white (like the speedometer numbers). It appears green at night because it is illuminated. There is a right-arrow following "Fuel Door". I assumed that meant that the door was open. THIS IS THE STUPID PART. I've now realized that this is not an indicator at all, it is simply a sign that points out that the fuel door is on the right side of the vehicle. DUHHH!

The button that is on the inside of the fuel door must be for the security system. I'll have to try it out when my neighbors arn't around.

Actually most cars have this these days. I used to be a manager in car rental and it was referred to as the "dummy symbol."

Ironically, on some cars its positioned odd so that it takes you just as long to see the arrow as it would to get out and check which side the old-fashioned way.
