5w30.

Gear oil I'm not sure about. But I have had good luck with the gear oil in 5-speeds.

Default re-think amsoil

i caution anyone to use amsoil. my turbo just went at 44k miles. subaru denied my warranty due to my longer oil change intervals. they claim the oil is "dark" and probably damaged the turbo. amsoil is testing my oil. it's a $2000 repair. hurts when the warranty you rely on is denied. and when amsoil markets their products in a way that voids a warranty. i'm working with the Attorney Gen'l office (and probably then a laywer) to get some justice here.

Please don't go bumping every Amsoil thread on nasioc. I responded in the Service & Maintenance Forum.

Amsoil is a very good oil and there are many analysis on it to back that up.

You're problem wasn't Amsoil. It's the fact that you actually went with the longer interval.

SERVICE LIFE
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:

Normal Service(3) Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

Severe Service(4) Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.

Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).

In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.

*OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer

(1) Engines operating under modified conditions are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturer.

(2) Mechanically sound engines are in good working condition and do not, for example, leak oil or consume excessive amounts, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak anti-freeze and have properly working emission control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.

(3) Personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

(4) Turbo/supercharged vehicles, commercial or fleet vehicles, extensive engine idling, first and subsequent use of AMSOIL in vehicles with over 100,000 miles, daily short trip driving less than 10 miles (16 km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty condition driving.

I have used the TSO 0w30 since 1k and have no problems whatsoever now with 55k+ on the ticker...Also use the 75w90 Severe Gear in all of the drive line with no issues...Of course I follow the recommended drain intervals though..

I should mention i dont plan on any extended oil change periods, 3000 miles, maybe slightly over.
I dont care what the manufactures say, when its black as night it needs to be changed.

5w-40 here now for about 20,000 miles - 04 STi with 45,000 miles on the odo. It is one of the better oils I have tried (doesn't burn off) compared to Mobil1 Synthetic 5w-30 and 10w-30.
