Just wondeirng, Is there a way to do this conversion, still keep the 2.5 RS wiring harness and use the WRX engine and tranny?

Ya it's called stand alone engine management, cuts all that wiring right out!

i thought the wiring was different in the WRX vs. RS...meaning that under the dash was different, to the enginge, etc?

the engine management system would only control the engine not anything else...right?

I think I'm still confused on this...someone enlighten me...

thanks,
space

It is different, thats why a stand alone unit would be the way to go if you don't want to re-wire things to please the wrx ecu.

sound right?

Thanks,
Travis

Yep now you got it!......Now the down sides of standalone.....Your car will need to be tuned by a shop with a dyno and ofcourse add the mucho bucks the stand alone costs in the first place. I've decided to go the rewire route and use the stock ecu mainly because I live in maine(the closest tuner is in mass.) and my stock ecu can always be re-flashed down the road when my mods demand it.

what kind of mods do you do that would require a re-flashed of the ecu chip?

Any OBD-II ECU can be reflashed, as long as there is software to reflash it.

the spacecowboy, I think you are a little confused about what parts of the wiring actually need to be changed. Have you purchased those wiring diagrams yet and looked? What you will find is that the engine management wiring harness can be completely removed from the rest of the wiring harness. This leaves you with almost a stand-alone OEM WRX ECU and engine harness. You now have to graft it into the car. This is really no different than a stand-alone ECU like MoTec or Electromotive Tec. The difference is that you have to spend more time deciphering wiring diagrams for that factory look and feel.

Even though you have the stand-alone OEM WRX ECU and engine harness, it is not powered and the gauges don't know what is going on with the engine. To fix this you need to tap into the power wires of your chassis, the gauge cluster wires, and then a few others mostly related to the engine, but not directly like radiator fans.

You could bypass doing anything with your gauge cluster, but you will not have oil pressure, water temp, engine speed, or a malfunction indicator light. There really isn't much to change for the dash and it most certainly isn't necessitating a complete change of the dash wiring.

Possible candidates for a reflashed ECU start with a stock WRX and go up from there.

Doesn't Link offer a plug n play adapter for their engine management for the 2.5RS? Can you put a wrx engine and run of 2.5RS ecu with the LINK?
