Ok ive been reading through the forums and their are tons of posts with equally the same amount of answers on what oil to use. The most popular seem to be mobil and amsoil. What weight is recamended, as i recall its 5w30 correct? If i bring the oil to the dealer will they change it so i can have records to keep the warranty happy? Also what oil filter should i use? I have an 02 WRX. Thanks.

Ya, 5w30 is fine... I try and use something heavyer in the summer.
The dealer should put in whatever you bring them but doing it yourself is so easy... The type of oil shouldnt have anything to do with the warranty but some dealers are asshats. |

Dont you have to have proof that the oil was changed, for them to warranty the car, which doing it yourself, would be kindof hard to proove.

I use Mobil 1 5W30. I also use a M1-104 filter (as far as I can tell they have the best filtration and multipass rating), but had to machine a longer oil filter union/stem to do so (at least on the RS I'm not positive about the ReX). With this set up the oil is still pretty clear at 3000 miles. I don't take it to the dealer to get the oil changed I do it myself and keep a logbook. As far as the best filter with the stock stem your pretty much have to use Purolator filters which are still pretty good. They produce the Suby OE filters as well as the Pep Boys house brand. There all basically a Purolator Plus. You can also use a Pure One as they have the same housings, but more filtering media. I also don't advise trying the M1 or K&N filters they are better, but the face of the filter is sunk in so the filter will only thread on about 2-1/2 to 3 turns which isn't enough on my RS. Hope this helps.

Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic all the way. At $5 a quart it may seem like overkill, but we are talking about our cars here!
