Question Any mountain bikers in MD?

Any mountain bikers out there? Want to meet up for a group ride? Fast, slow, technical, or easy. I'm more of a XC rider, and usually ride at Avalon, Mckeldin, Loch Raven, Whitetail (a few times). I'll drive to Frederick, lots of great trails I hear.

But I haven't ridden since I got my RS coz my old bike rack won't fit over the wing. Even still, I'm just a casual rider - I own a Gary Fisher aluminum bike. That any good?

It's good to "see" some other riders out there. I do some road riding also, if I'm short on time or the trails are in bad condition. but I'm tired of having cars either buzz real close or swerve at me because the rednecks in Carroll County think they own the road and bikes don't belong. If anyone out there does this to bikes beware, I called the state police on the last guy that did this to me and had him arrested for assault. On a brighter note....
Hey Snoopy, Gary Fisher makes some great bikes, I rode a sugar3 in New Mexico last month and it was a light, great handling XC bike.
I also posted this on the mid-atlantic forum. Tangmere responded and rides XC also. How about a ride at Schaeffer Farms or Avalon? I suggested this weekend.

Snoopy, that's alright. I almost forgot, as far as carrying your bike on your RS:

roof rack - very expensive and not the safest way to carry the bike

trunk racks - they do make them racks that will fit over the spoiler but either way any of these WILL scratch your car

hitch rack - IMO this was the best choice, half the price of a roof rack, much more stable and definetly sturdy (completely made of steel), can lock bikes to rack and rack to hitch, won't scratch the car, and doesn't get in the way of the trunk. Draw Tite and Reese make class II hitches with a 1.25" square reciever for the RS, you can get the hitch rack from the same company or from any major rack manufacturer.

Right here, droog. I usually ride Sundays. I am not an expert, but am no novice either. Loch Raven, Iron Hill DE, and Schaffer Farms in MoCo. I can't stand Avalon, me my own self. Walkin' half the time, as I am not a great climber, and some of those climbs are great. I'll be out of town this weekwnd, but email me so I can give you a shout next time we go.

Jersey has some good places to ride. NJ was in Bike magazine a couple of months ago. Try going to mtbr.com they have a section where people give trail reviews and directions - its organized by state - good stuff.

How close are you to Motown? I'd be willing to meet some folks out at Big Bear in Bruceton Mills, some good XC and DH too. I'm not bad, but not in as good of shape as I've been in years past. GF rock I bought my wife a entry level Gitchie Gummie. We have been doing the rails trail system a lot this summer. I'd love to trade my 6 year old alum DiamondBack for a Sugar.

Sorry man, I'm about 2 to 3 hours from WV. i want to do some riding there, I hear pocahontas county, canaan, and snow shoe are great places. unfortunately its not in the schedule for this year.
sorry to hear you've been riding rail trails - flat and boring - on the other hand if it introduces another person to the sport then that's cool.
And what's wrong with a 6 year old bike. I still have a 9 year old GT Pantera. It's a great bike, although the only thing original on it is the front derailler and headset. I also have a 17 year old Peugot road bike. the only things that I replaced on that bike were the tires, cables, brake pads, chain and seat. It weighs about 26 pounds but I can go just as fast on it as anybody with a $2000 kestrel or trek or whatever. I guess the old bike is not as cool but it serves its purpose - fun.
