Been pondering tires for a month now...
I have Falken Azenis Sports. Like em and they are worn out. I want a harder, quieter, and longer lasting tire. I like Falkens, I've had 3 sets total, I'm going to stick with them. So.... Azenis ST115 or FK451? (or is there another brand I should be checking out) BTW I just stumbled upon http://www.edgeracing.com great prices....

ST115s will kick the FK451s ass in terms of grip, treadwear, and quietness. I have 20k on my set in size 225-45-17. They grip like mad and wear like iron!
I swear by Falkens. The FK451s may be ok but they are an older, less technologically advanced design. Go with 115s. ![]() |

The S115's are a touring tire....not a UHP or max performance tire...
They aren't in the same league.... 451's are a higher performance tire. |

ripvw, actually that is thread that lead to my confusion.
I know the FK451s are techincally the "better" tire, but I havent heard many bad things about the ST115s. They seem to match my "harder, quieter, and longer lasting tire" criteria. I was really hoping to hear some hardcore positives or negetives... thanks BajaGirl. I want harder tires (I believe the the ST115s have a 360 tread rating) so that I actually loose traction. I want to be able to rip my tires during a launch rather than putting so much abuse on the tranny. I posted a similar question a month ago about what type of tire to get... and I think the ST115 is the one. Unless I hear someone really tell me they suck... |

I'm with Bajagirl... its a little known fact that Falken-sponsored drifters in japan are all provided with ST-115s vs the regular meaty Azenis tires because they are more predictable, they wear longer, and they still have 9/10's of the grip. They are classified as an "Ultra-high performance" tire
The regular Azenis is a "Max Performance" which is one step higher. IMHO you cant get a better balanced tire in terms of handling, predictability, and treadwear. Turn-in response is also very good since they have a reinforced sidewall. The only one negative i can think of is that after 20k miles on my set i'm getting a vibration at highway speeds. Its nothing major but maybe the wheels are just in need of rebalancing. My driving habits are very hard on my wheels and tires! |

anyone out there that has owned both models and can actually speak from experience?
Before I decided on tires I e-mailed the folks at falken, and they basically told me that the GRB's were the ones to get for all-out performace/grip vs the st-115's. Just one more thought(and some common sense): ST-115: harder tire = less grip, more treadlife FK451: softer tire = more grip, less treadlife I went with the 451's and have not yet been dissapointed. On the other hand Chewy wants a hard, quiet tire....i think the st-115's should be fine. By the way...I got my tires from edge racing, great service and awesome prices. |

Got the ST-115s last week. Geeebzus, the ride of the car is like night and day now. Azenis Sports w/ 18,000 miles are the suckiest thing compared to a set of brand new ST-115s </master of the obvious>
I was driving over 100mph and the car was rock solid and quiet. No vibrations in the steering wheel or in the pedals. A quiet, firm, ride. I'm very happy with these. The only negetive is the dry traction <again master of the obivous> Azenis RS Sports have freakin amazing dry traction... the ST115s are significantly less. |

Chewy
I also found them at Discounttiredirect.com. $115 with free shipping. So about 5 bucks more (for me) to go with Discount Tire. Not that I can say anything against edgeracing.com. No experience. Just giving another option. I've decided to go with the ST-115's myself. Todd. ![]() |

This will be my third summer on my set of 115's. This is a street tire, and as such I'm happy with them. Plenty of grip on the street, and the ride is reasonably quiet. I do suspect they are heavier than other sporting tires though. I don't have any proof of that though.
I have about 35,000kms on the set now, and there is still good tread left. |
