Question Clicking sound from dash

Recently while driving I have noticed a clicking sound coming from the dash. This sound might have always been there, but I think I would have noticed it earlier. Anyways, I'm driving along and I hear a click. Then a few seconds later I hear another click. This continues on for about 10 clicks and then stops. 30 seconds to 1 min later it starts again. These clicks are very regular and if I were to time them I would have to say that they happen with a certain amount of delay between them. Being as paranoid as I am about my car I have tried to pay attention to them as much as possible. They only seem to happen when i am driving at a constant speed and never during idle. I also noticed a few nights ago that instead of the usual 30+ second pause between the next series, it kept going on and on and also was doing it at an increased pace. My thoughts on this are that it is something in the cooling system. Perhaps a thermostat or fan switch turning on and off. If that is the case though, then what might the problem be? Water pump, temp sensor, thermostat, cooling fans, etc? I don't even know where or what is making the noise, only that it comes from the dash area.

As always, any help would be and is appreciated. The sooner I get this noise figured out, the sooner I can try to pin down what sounds like a bad cv joint...

Once again, thanks in advance.

Is it a relay clicking? The '03 cobra would click a relay once every time past 3/4 pedal.......It actually got very annoying.....

Ozy, I have heard a similar clicking noise, but I don't think I hear it as frequently like you describe. Personally, I thought it sounded like the plastic panel around the gauges or possibly the steering column moving. I have only noticed this in colder weather. Wish I could be more help, I will listen for that sound again.

I have always noticed a clicking sound from my dash that occurs when the electric radiator fans turn on or off. The sound is most likely caused by a relay switching on or off. However, I don't think it should occur as often as you are describing. Mine makes one soft click every 5 minutes or so (more often when the car is not in motion and heat builds under the hood).

I'm pretty sure you are hearing a relay switch. I'm not sure why it is switching every 30 seconds though.

does anyone have any idea how to diagnose this further?

i have thought that it was the radiator fans also, but if this is the case, is there some larger problem that i am not fully aware of? such as a water pump dying, bad thermostat, electrical problems?

i am quite paranoid about noises and temperature with my car since i once lost a car engine because the bearings on a pulley siezed and this pulley happened to be the one running the water pump.

i'ld rather replace a part now at my leisure than have something f-up horribly and have to hurry to get it fixed and possibly cost more.

I had this happen only once about a week or so ago. It was really cold out (single digits) and I had just driven the car for about 45 minutes. I pulled into my driveway and stopped with the engine running and there was a click that sounded like a relay switching about every 10-15 seconds. It did it for about 10 clicks or so then stopped and hasn't done it since. I was thinking it may be the AC compressor since I had the defrost on and that uses the AC system.

Default clicking sound from dashboard

I have had a similar relay sounding clicking going on for a while now. I have pinned it down to the light system, if the lights are off I will not get the sound, if they are on it will randomly kick on and repeat itself. then if I turn them off and back on again it stops for a bit.

The same sound happens when I apply my brake, also my stereo lights up when I press the pedal as if the lights were being turned on. All my headlights/turning signals are good except one reverse light.

I have dealt with the sound for about 5 months and curious if anyone has experienced anything like this and found out the root cause.

Thanks
