realistically I will never run that much maybe 25-30 MAx but I want to have it built so it can take 60 before exploding and killing every living thing in a 12 mile radius.

I think you are thinking of two different people.

CP = http://www.cppistons.com/

"Quirt" I don't know who that is.

mike you guys have two shops now? Wow Ron has really progressed out there. Much better than he was doing in LA. His old shop used to be around the corner from my house....man it would have been cool if he stayed here and did all the same stuff.

The shop in downtown St Louis is where we still do all of our engine work, fabrication and assembly.

The other shop is located 18 miles from downtown St Louis, and is in Belleville, IL. Currently, it only houses our Dyno. But soon enough we will be moved over there for good.

STi stuff? We rarely get anything anymore due to shipping problems and damaged goods in the past. However, we can locate items if the need arises. We get our stuff direct from Japan.

Yeah, you guys were getting a lot of sti stuff for a while. I know it comes direct from japan, but I mean it comes in containers right? So it's originally on a boat.

hey everyone.

this is quite possible the best thread ever. could be because i checked out proven power bragging first (srt evo sti and a whole bunch of bench racers ) i think it's the great photos of the block!

MJU1983 i have a question for you.

do you have pics of the heads and cams and all that good stuff?

i'm having trouble picturing the ACVS from the drawings in the shop manual. i know you're busy, just a few pics would be great.

and since this thread is full of specialists, would anyone like to enlighten me on the feasibility/availability of roller-cams for the sti (usdm v8)?

thanks again for the great info!

take it easy all

Mike. Thanks for posting the pics. The V8 JDM's do in fact use Cast pistons. They are supposed to be stronger then the forged pistons and I know alot of you dont want to believe that but I am very comfortable with the new Castings. One easy way to tell if its a cast or forging is to look at the bottom of the piston. The cast pistons will always have the Cross hatch lines while the forged pistons will be smooth.

The real reason (IMHO) for the switch to Castings is for emissions and longevity. The V7 motors used Forged pistons and because of cold start emissions had to run a SUPER tight wall clearance of 10-12 ten thousands. Probably also to stop the knock on cold start. The problem with this is that as the piston takes on heat it expands and the piston runs tight in the bore creating heat and friction. Eventually the engine makes its own clearance and you get a knock. Ask Jeff Sponaugle about that one. Many Japanese race and rally teams that use V7 engines pull them down and machine the bores slightly for more clearance. This issue is solved with the cast pistons.

Cya

Impreza WRX STi Turbo upgrade on USDM 2.5

Hi,
Great Pics and Info -
I purchased a 2004 STI engine with 50 miles on it and I'm looking to upgrade the turbo with a Turbonetics T66 and Racegate I have that are sized for a 2500cc.

What do you think is a safe boost level given I want to keep the engine stock. Also do you know of anyone using an aftermarket ECU with a VVT engine?

Thanks
