Talking !!! Subaru dealers = Future STi Parts Dealer !!!!

Yesterday I was getting my oil changed at the dealership and struck up a conversation with their 'main Impreza mechanic'. I had one fog lap bulb go out, so he was going to replace both bulbs with 100 watt bulb as a freebie for me. Lucky me, the last set were just taken. He saw my obvious disappointment, and decided to show me something that might cheer me up. He drooped in my lap about 8-10 page booklet that has 'PRELIMINARY' stamp at the top of each page. The first few pages were a long list of parts and part numbers, the rest were detailed diagrams of the listed parts including bolts and such. One page looked like diagrams of a all the parts necessary for a FULL front suspension swap including arms to strut tower bar. Looking closer, I noticed the tower bar looked exactly like the WRX STi ver V strut tower bars! I look at him with a ' ..I don't get it, what's the deal?'. He said that they just got this preliminary parts list of the WRX Sti ver V that they'll be offering for the US Impreza's here at the dealership. He also mention IF this go through that they would be an official STi dealer and that a new Impreza RS or "WRS" could be orders (bought) with these parts under full factory warranty as an option. And, for older Impreza these will be considered factory upgrade parts.
He also mentioned that it would obviously be cheaper to order the parts for 'my' Impreza from an aftermarket place and install it myself, rather than having the dealership take care of it , due to Subaru's markup, labor, warranty fees, ect. ect..

It would interesting to know if SCCA would consider an Impreza with an STi setup offered by SOA as 'legal' for GS (since it would be a Subaru upgrade trim under full factory warranty) instead of smacking into Street Prepared. If so, the Impreza's would have no problems competing against the TT's and Type-R's.

And if you wondering... I didn't notice any engine or HP boosting type parts except for the STi type muffler. But , then again I glanced through it and didn't commit every thing a saw to memory.

I'm not going to disclose this mechanics' name or the name of the dealership without asking him first, wouldn't want to burn him, if he wasn't suppose to show me the "STi dealer" plans.

I think that was posted a couple of weeks ago, My dealer told me back in April. I go in and bug them, I think they showed me to get rid of me. The prices are going to be to high. You can find the same parts for cheaper on the net.

I posted that booklet at CheckPoint like a year ago. Anyways, the news is bad. That project was killed off for legal issues.

Thumbs down

If SOA prices things like they do the carbon dash kit then you can count on it costing way too much. It will end up being cheaper to get things from the sources we already have.

I don't get what kind of legal issues would prevent Subaru from selling their own parts in the US. A suspension upgrade certainly wouldn't fall under any kind of emissions regulations.

Legal issues? Explain!

Not the point!

The point is that performance parts will be available that do not void your warranty!

Aftermarket engine parts pretty much kill off your warranty, but if the dealer installs them.....

Woohoo!

I think the legal issue preventing them is the product liability.

The parts do not have product liability in north america, and obtaining this status is not only time consuming but very costly.
