I was able to pick up Diamond Audio Hex 4" midwoofers and crossovers at a great price. However, I need to buy another pair of tweeters. I'm having trouble finding matching Diamond tweeters. Would I have trouble running a Kicker R25 silk tweeter to the Diamond Audio crossover?
The Diamond crossover frequency is 3500Hz, and that is the expected crossover frequency for the Kicker R25 tweeter. I'm wondering if I'm going to have issues with sensitivity and adjustments etc.

If the crossovers are Diamond too, I would get the tweeter that was designed to be used with the 4" you have. The Kicker's will work electrically, acoustically is another matter. You could get lucky and they will sound fine. speaker |

I would also suggest finding the correct tweeter as it will match better. The issue comes in a few forms here. If the electrical properties of the tweeter dont match exactly, basicly we are talking impedance of the tweeters arent the same, then potentially it could change the crossover point. However most all car audio speakers are 4 ohm, and I believe that the two tweeters you would be looking at are also 4 ohm, so then no crossover point change. So in that regard, its a null issue, and I wouldnt worry about it. Then you have the sensitivity issue, here could be a problem. However if the crossover offers tweeter output adjustments, then you dont have to worry. Also you could construct your own L-pad cuircit to pad down the tweeter or midbass driver, its super easy. I could help you with the design and what parts to get. The basic design of all crossovers is not dependant on any other issue other than its impedance. In its most basic essence this statement is true. However, many crossover do take it further and include extra cuircits to help integrate the two drivers better. Things like a Zobel network are often added, and doing this requires you to know other perameters of the drivers used. My recomendation would be to research the crossovers a little, if nothing else, find out what order crossover it is, then count the number of parts, and report back. If its a 2nd order crossover and has more than 2 capacitors, then it has some added cuircits. Same goes for inductors.
Now the next issue is that of quality and design. I was part of Kicker competition group for 2 years. I used some of their stuff, mostly their subs and amps. Durring that time I was asked to switch to kicker resolution speakers, that was also the time I quit the group. Resolution speakers are ok, they are good for the money, but they are cheap. The quality of the parts is low, the markup is high, and generaly they are a mass market product. Diamond however has its speakers made for them by both vifa and Eton. Both of these companies are Danish and are very good quality vendors. They far exceed that of Kicker and make better products. I would stick with the Diamond just because its likely to be a better sounding tweeter. |

I have to agree with the guys above unless you want to buy another tweeter and either make or have made another crossover to go with it. I know the diamond audio crossovers include Zobel networks
I have used the Vifa tweeter from Madisound and had them make a crossover for me with pretty good results. it is also sold through http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=264-590&DID=7 As for the R25...I like it. I stil wouldn't use it with the wrong crossover though as the Kicker crossover has a Zobel filter built into it. Dont reaqlly care much for anything else made by Kicker but I like that particular tweeter. |
