Question Buying Advice (please read)

Hi guys. I need some advice on buying a car. My dilema is this: I love the 00' 2.5 RS Coupe. I want to buy one this June. However, I realize that buying a new car means you're going to lose a lot of money as soon as you drive it off the lot. I also would very much like to turbo charge the Impreza if I bought it. I am told that the WRX is coming out in 2001 in the states but only in a 4 door and wagon version. Should I buy a used car now, I was thinking GLX '98-99 VR6 Jetta. And wait a year until the WRX is out in the states and try to find a used 01' WRX? Or should I just buy the '00 RS Coupe new and buy an aftermarket turbo for it? I really am torn. I love the Impreza so so much, but it seems impractical right now. Also, what is the pricing going to be like for the WRX? Please let me know what you guys think. I value the clubs opinion. Thank you so much

I can garuntee you wont like the price, as it will most likely be over 30,000. It will be much cheaper to buy a used RS, and turbo it, by, alot...

Keep watching the board, often times there are one for sale in the classified section...

*this thread is gonna be long, I can tell already (it has the word WRX in it)

Don't count on a "WRX" to come to the states. From what's been said around here '01 is going to be simular to '00 but who's to know until they acually do come out. And even if they do come out with a turbo it WILL be about 5 grand more than the '00 RS.

Just get a '00 RS. then after a year or two (after broken in and after you save some $$$) you can put in a turbo. You will have to modify the RS but thats how GOOD drivers are born, plus it'll be fun .

I am praying that the "WRX" or whatever it will be called will not be close to what the two guys above posted.

The main point is...no one really knows what is going to happen or how much it will cost until Subaru releases the info.

So, all we can do now is be patient...so if you want a turbo Impreza...with a factory warranty that covers the turbo (WOOOOHOOO!!) just be patient.

I know its not easy I am having trouble myself but I already own a n/a Impreza.

I am holding out for the factory warrantied turbo...that I pray I can afford!!!!!!!

The turbo won't be here till summer of 01 as a MY02. I wouldn't hold my breath for the car, it will probably be ala Beetle for the first year. ($2-$5k over MSRP) I'd get the 00 and in 3 years get the WRX. That's what I'm doing with the GT Limited. Getting the 4 banger and once they sort out the H6 and what not, I'll get that.

Yah I would have to say to either wait it out or find a used 99RS and save yourself the depreciation. Then go out and put the money you saved into a turbo kit. SOA is way too secretive about its plans to say anything for sure. I can say that they are secretive to the point of pissing off a few of the people who want them. Is it a certain color that your looking for? Is that the reason you are looking at a MY00?

Buying a 2.5 and force feeding it is definately gonna be cheaper. You should be able to find a nice one for a reasonable price.

You ARE looking at a significant wait on the turbo model (at least mid-year 01 if not early 02). I would suggest going ahead with the RS now keeping it 2 or 3 years and then deciding if a used turbo would be worth it. (They are gonna be pricey new, and limited supply.) As far as losing value on a new vehicle, the one thing that you have to take into account is that in some places used RS's are almost non-existant so you can sometimes get more than the "book" value on them.

I would like the opportunity to talk with you about getting an RS through our dealership for you if you are interested. If so, please feel free to email me.

Depending on your location, I can hook you up with a dealer in the NYC area, excellent pricing, no haggling... Although if you are closer to deadbolt, he seems like an excellent dealer as well.

Buy a used Impreza L (depending on the year you can get on for around $6K), drive it until the Turbo comes out then decide. When the Turbo comes out I'm sure there will still be brand new RS's to be found (My dealer has had a red RS sedan since October), then get what you want & can afford!
