Default Indoor Kart Racing

This weekend I had a run at Fast Lap in Vegas. It was pretty awesome and I did pretty good. Its kind of like a real Gran Tourismo as you can really bang the karts around on the track.

Had only one spin out when i got nudged from the inside as i was trying to pass on a corner.

Anyone else go a lot to these?

edit: speeeling

Dromo 1 in anaheim is nice, but sometimes they complain when you drift around

I used to go to SpeedRing up in the Bay Area about twice a week. Got pretty damned good at it - but it's a pretty expensive hobby.

Twice a week?

I used to go speedring every Wednesday for counter then Friday for $60 bucks 3 hours.

After they built the www.gokartracer.com then I started going there now.

But... Since I have my own trackdays every month I never go to those karting anymore.

they let you bang doors? Are these like mini nascar karts?

at dromo 1, they castrate you if you skid too hard.

The things I hate about www.gokartracer.com is no trail braking.

The engine shuts off if you do which is definitely ghey.

Gas and Brake are too close to each other.

I broke the speedring recored 5 months ago. After they repaved it someone else broke it right away.

I'm obsessed with gokartracer after going my first time. I need a season pass...because I can't bring myself to shell out the mad cash necessary to participate EVERY time!

indoor karting is really fun, but very slow compared to real karts. those 7 hp briggs engines just don't compare to 30hp+ 100cc/125cc 2 stroke engines.

These were pretty fast ones i rode. They said 200cc but i'm no so sure. Limited to 35mph tho. I was able to max em out on a couple stretches.

You had to sign a 'you can't sue us no matter what' contract before riding.

edit, from the add :

Quote:
According to Greg Bernauer, manager of Fast Lap “This is not kiddy kart racing. Get that notion out of your head. This is a high performance, 200cc, superior handling, twin piston braking, adrenaline pumping machine. It’s the closest thing out there to real racing.”

With up to 15 carts racing at a time, Fast Lap is running high performance Sodi Kart race karts. Manufactured in Europe, these karts are constructed of high-quality steel tubing. The karts feature a fully hydraulic disk braking system and a 200cc Honda 4stroke engine with catalytic converter. Producing nearly 7 horsepower, they have a 2:1 ratio belt drive with a wet clutch for a smooth ride and lots of power and can produce speeds of up to 35MPH. A full wrap around energy absorption system and a rear axle cover adds additional safety. The karts are designed to be both durable and safe and comply with the current ASTM standards. And there’s more! Every driving session is timed through a technically advanced management system. At the end of the session, each individual gets a computer-generated printout of their race session, including each lap raced, their best lap, and the fastest lap of the group

Heh, there's a local place here but I think the engines are 4.5 hp. It's fun, though... you can get up enough speed on the little track. Very technical, all about making your turns.

I used to go to this one by my aunt (N Atlanta/Dawsonville area), which was fricken awesome. A really tight track, and the carts were pretty nice. They even had this little room in the back where they had real racing suits, helmets, neck braces, the lot. We used to go with all of our racing buddies when we went road racing at Road Atlanta (it wasn't that far from Road A). We would get a carpool goin (about 10 people crammed in a van), and go to dinner, then karting. We were dressing up in the racing suits, and everything . I haven't been in a while, and REALLY want to go. Anybody know of any other places like these in the SE region?

Was it that Andretti place? I was thinking of checking it out, but ATL is a pretty long haul from here. There's a place in Charlotte, but it's kinda whack. The karts are usually pretty thrashed - one time I got stuck with one that was setup for the "Oval" they have there. Karts? Ovals? Gimme a ****ing break...

I go down to Opa Locka in miami, where a freind of mine does karting etc. They have these cheap rentals there that can reach about 40 on the straight, they are fun but nothing compaired to the shifter karts, no comparison at all. Its fun to drift them also, but it tends to bog down mid corner when sliding. You can also flick them into corners getting it sideways on the straight right before the turn, fun stuff.
