So I read this stupid short story about 4 times over and I cant think of one thing to write about.
I found an essay online showing symbolism between peoples ideas and behaviors directly related to capitalism and marxism. I am not that good of a writer and my prof would know I didnt write that .Plus I want to understand what I am writing. My background: its been 3 years since I have been in college...so I am so fricking lost right now that I am making myself be frustrated. help. -justin

a good theme is the ignorance in following rules just for the sake of them being the rules.

I found samples of irony and symbolism in the book, but they are one or two each.. No way I could write 5-8 paragraphs on that.
http://www.netwood.net/~kosenko/jackson.html I found that online. Maybe it'll help me out... Never thought about the mob mentality thing. I did think of the others. But again, 5-8 paragraphs ![]() -justin |

How about utilitarianism...the concept of the greatest good for the greatest number?
It's been a long time since I read The Lottery, but as I recall, there was no explanation of why they had to kill the one person... Hypothetically, if there was an edict which said that the village had to sacrifice one person per year (or whatever the time frame was) or else they would all be killed, then the killing is more justified (in a utilitarian sense) than if they just kill for no reason... Anyway, just wanted to add my 1.9 cents... |

You want to impress them? Draw correlations from another story.
I'd suggest The Crucible. You'd be English Big Pimpin' then. |
