Lightbulb Nokian on STi

I'm interested in these tires for my STi but I can't seem to find a dealer in MD, and I'm not sure which one to get. I've read a lot of recommendations for the WR's, but they list two different sizes and I'm not really sure what the difference is between them:

225/45R17 91H T443480 24 7-8.5 7.5 25 8.9 11 45
225/45R17 XL 94V T443482 24 7-8.5 7.5 25 8.9 11

That was cut and pasted from their site:

Does anyone have experience with this tire on their stock STi wheels? How much did ya pay, and were did ya get 'em from?

Thanks!

~JB

I went with 225-55-17. yah.. the sidewalls are kinda HUGE, but the rub is very minimal. It only occurs when the suspension is fully compressed (as far as I can tell.). Awesome tires.

go with the V rated - they are a stiffer sidewall and will offer better performance for an insignificant cost increase.

have fun.

I just got the 205/50 VR 17's for my STi
For winter I thought thinner would be better.
I paid 746 mounted/ balanced and tax out the door.

Kim,

You mounted them on your stock wheels?

I agree that thinner would be better, but can you tell a performance difference on dry or wet pavement?

Thanks,

~JB

Bought Rota SDR Bronze and McGard lug nuts. Wheels are 17 x 7.5. Actually the combo is giving me a smoother ride than stock.
Haven't had a chance to really drive it hard in the dry but so far I like the snow handling here in Buffalo.

I have the 225/45/17 V rated with bronze SDRs. Only have 5 miles on them in the snow, but they worked great. I only waited two months for them. Then found out there were only three V rated and one H. Boy was the tire dealer shocked when I brought that one back. The importer had pulled the order wrong and shipped the right one that same day and was on the car a week later. I hate to say that I paid like 900.00+ for the tires and 550.00 for the Rotas. I hope they are worth it!

The XL designation is an increased load rating giving them a stronger sidewall, etc...

I too have the 225/55-17 but the Hakka 2. I got them locally for $675 mounted, balanced, and taxed.

They are mounted on Tarmac II's and, as mentioned earlier, there is very minor rubbing in the rough stuff. A 215/50 or 215/55 might have been a better choice.

As far as traction...unbelievable for a 300HP car in the snow. In fact, grip in the snow seems only slightly less than dry pavment. I say that because they are quite squirrely on dry pavement.

I know people with the WR who really love the tires (tyres). Especially, in areas where snow fall is less.
