Default Autometer Gauge bezel?

Hey all,
Haven't been on the forums in a while and im finaly getting around to buying some gauges for the car. I remember back in the day we all waiting forever for the autometer gauge bezel... forgot the part number. I went to a meet a few days back and i saw someone with one.. i assume that its finally being distrubuted and jsut wanted to ask for first hand impressions. i could also use some help on vendors. Thanks in advance

-Brian

first generation fit poorly - blocking the top of the speedometer. Current version fits much better, but the finish is more glossy than the oem piece and looks a little out of place to me. If you do a search, there were a couple of threads on this thing when it finally arrived.

I just got mine in the mail last week from subarustore.com (http://subarustore.com/auinclbetw.html). The overall plastic quality frankly blows compared to stock. The top is paper thin and the edges appear hand cut and are pretty ragged. There are also scuff marks all over the place.

All that said, after sanding the edges with some 400 grit and smoothing things out, it's much much better. I did a test fit and it does indeed fit pretty much as well as stock. It doesn't come with tabs to mount the rubber flap that the stock bezel has, but i'm solving that by epoxying in a wooden dowel to the back of the autometer bezel and screwing the flap onto that. Once i get it in i'll post pics.

To summarize: when you open the box you might be a bit pissed at the quality, but once you do a little work and put it in the car, it's sweet. The badassness overrides any little imperfection. =]

I like mine very much, and it's one of the first ones
The day I installed mine, it was bright sunshine and ~90F, and I set it on the hot parking lot for a minute and re-shaped it a little and it fits real nice...be careful not to crack/break it....kind of a PITA, but well worth the clean look
MUCH better than a damn pillar pod, IMHO, an you will never hit your head on it either.

I agree with these guys, it may need a little work right out of the box, nothin to difficult. The work is well worth it. I got it from the subarustore.com as well. If you want to see a pic, send me an email. jwenger@gonzaga.edu

I installed mine on Tuesday. It fits much better than the first batch (I had one of them, too). If you tighten all the screws enough, it doesn't rattle at all. No gauges in it yet, but I like the way it looks - much cleaner than a pillar pod!

Got it in two days ago!

I painted it flat black and installed 52mm Omori gauges
looks very OEM.

If I need more gauges, I'll get the new center dash one. Has the same wrincke finish as the clock piece but for now, I love my setup

PS Pillar pods do have the benefit of being in your line of sight thus the warning l.e.d. will hit you right in the face!

I'm actually thinking about replacing the clock with a pod (water + oil temp, oil pressure), and putting an analog clock in the corner of the windshield, thanks to Subiegal's corner pod. I won't hit my head, critical gauges will all be there, _and_ I get my clock!

Don't forget that if you get in an accident, you gauges may hit you right in the face with a pillar pod....This is why they don't do this from the factory....
There are so many things that people do that they just don't think about ahead of time and then after the fact, say..."Oh well...."
A bezel mounted gauge can't hit you in the face...

I've not heard anything but good about j-spec tuning. I'm about to order the same gauges, and Thaison said that the electrical versions are in stock.
