Default Passanger Window Switch problem

So I just bought my replacement WRX (2nd one, just sold first one, too many problems) and I just ran into a small... and weird problem with my new car....

The passanger side window switch doesnt allow the window to go up or down (doesnt work)
yet when you use the drivers side 4 way switch to control the passanger window it works.....
and yet also on the passanger side door panel the door lock control on that side functions properly....

Any ideas?

It will be a dead switch, that has most likely been disconnected, as the switches are in a return loop...

I had the rear switch on my Forester die, and I could wind down, but not up... the switch could be disconnected, and would work, but with it connected, wouldn't...

If you bought from a dealer, take it back... Should still be under a secondhand warranty...

19 bucks for a new switch, it can be purchased separately.

make sure the driver lock out switch isn't engaged (small square button front of the other buttons). that sounds like that might be your problem vice bad switch.

Before I went and bought a new switch I'd go get a can of contact/control cleaner & lubricant from my local home improvement store. I've had a can of the stuff that I've used for years and it's restored many "broken" window and lock switches on a variety of cars to perfect working condition. Just hose the inside of the switch down with the stuff, move it around a bit to work the cleaner in, and let it dry for a short while before turning the ignition on and testing it. At the worst, you'll be out $5 for the can of cleaner which you will most likely use successfully in the future anyway, and you might wind up saving the extra money from a new switch.

I have this same problem in my '00 RS. Haven't figured out a way to fix it yet, I suppose I will just end up buying a new switch altogether.

I love how people go for the most technical answer when sometimes it is the simplest one that fixes the problem

Check all the other windows from their switches. If they do not work, then the window lock is on.

If that was it, you might also want to check the child safety locks. Someone might have had a child(ren) and put all the locks on.
