The UTEC does need the factory ECU to connect to Hyperterminal.

A few things to check;

1. Make sure that the 9V battery is fresh or the adapter provides at least 9V.

2. Check that there are no other programs, such as Hotsync, "hogging" the serial port.

3. Check which comms port (e.g. coms 1) you are using and make sure that Hyperterminal has selected that port. Make sure that the baud rate, stop bits and parity are set correctly. Hyperterminal will show that it is "connected" regardless of whether any of these are incorrect. When Hyperterminal reports "connected" it only indicates it is listening and transmitting to the assigned comms port. It does not indicate that it has a connection with the UTEC.

4. Start Hyperterminal first then power up the UTEC, or hit a key such as escape.

regards
Pete
