Default Will 235 or 245s fit on a WRX?

I have Rota SDR 17" which are 7.5" wide. Can I fit 235/45/17s or 245/40/17s on the car without rubbing? Thanks.

Jay

You can get away with 235/40-17 on a 7.5" wide wheel, but 245's will be too wide. You'd need at least an 8" wide wheel.

235's should fit on a sedan without rubbing, while you may have to get the fenders rolled in the rear to fit 245's. Depends if the car is lowered at all.

i have 235/40/17s as my race setup... its a little bit smaller diameter but it does not rub.

i'm assuming you have a sedan... because if you have a wagon you'll definately need to mod you wheel well.

good luck

Yeah I have a Sedan.. So do you think 235/45/17s would rub? 235/40/17 is a little too small diameter wise for me.. didn't want to change my final drive ratio that much.

But 235/45-17's will also change the final drive ratio.

Yes, but not as aggressively as 235/40/17s.. I don't want to change it THAT much.

I'd rather go smaller than bigger.

Although it is out of the recommended wheel width, you can fit a 245 40-17 on Rotas and do quite well. trhoppe places extremely highly at nationals in SoloII and Prosolo with this combo.

Remember, it will fit, but it is not the ideal.

245/40/17 would be really close to stock size, but prob needs a 8" wheel.

I'm going to settle on 235/45/17s.. which are a tiny bit larger diameter over stock.. but I figure better gas mileage can't hurt =)

I currently have 245/45R17 tires on my stock WRX rims.
They fit perfectly, and they are WIDE...

Say What?

I am Wider and BIGER
than my friend who has 235/45-17

I wonder Why?

And it's noticible to the naked eye!

you stuffed 245s onto the tiny oem wheels and just because they fit, does not mean the fit as well as they could or your contact patch is as big as it could be

In theory I agree,

However, my 245's are WIDER than my friends 235's
on the SAME rim.

But like you said I could get more contact if I got wider rims,
but then again the 245's on wider rims would RUB.

wider does not equal to more grip

I'm waiting for my wheels to come in, but I have 255/40R17 Victoracers, which are 24.9" diameter (ala Kumho's website). They are gonna go on some 17x8.5" Advan RG's.

Although, I'm starting to feel back because I'll be using my more expensive wheels just for racing

WOW 255! I assume you need the fenders rolled for that to fit? You gotta take some pictures when you have them on the car. That would look awesome.

Question

So what would give you a better contact patch? 225/45-17 or 235/40-17?
