Default Wire loose in UTEC?

I have a weird anomaly with my UTEC:

It doesn't want to communicate with my laptop at all. I can press escape all I want, turn the ignition off and on, nothing...

However, If I firmly bang on the kickplate with my fist a few times and then press escape, it connects just fine! I have pulled up the kickplate to see if the serial cable was loose, but no. it is firmly screwed in.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

The ground wire is not needed for functionality of the UTEC or connection to it.
First, I wouldnt be hitting it. Secondly, make sure there is not other software running on the laptop that would be using that serial port. (ie: hotsync for palm) I have to hit enter twice for mine to come up. Have you double checked your software settings and hard set VT100 emulation?
When the utec was out of the car, could you connect to it with a 9v battery without problems?

Yeah, I probable shouldn't we pounding on it, but it was my last ditch effort to get it to work, and suddenly it did! Everytime I can't connect, beating on the kickplate seems to fix it. Very odd.

I was unable to connect with the 9V battery, although I didn't try for too long.

All com settings are proper. It works great after pounding on the kickplate.

I'd send it in to TXS, but I have 565 injectors, and I can't drive w/o the UTEC.

Wait, he has the original one, or did you sell him the replacement?

How did TXS handle it? We're they nice enough to send you a new one and allow you to return the defective one after install?

Rich (digitaltekniq) sold me the replacement... I believe Rich bought the UTEC from garret at worldone performance. I think after he spoke with TXS, he sent the old utec to garret and got a new one back.
I would give TXS a call, so its documented that you have problems with your unit and so you can see what your options are.

haha... And Aaron, still hasnt installed the one he has now.. sory rich.. haha

Technically you can, you just can't boost much, run past 5500 rpm, or floor it !

You want to race again after you pull it?
