Has anyone here actually cracked it open and tried scraping off the film.
Im not too sure on how i get to the green film but want to replace it with a blue film instead to better compliment my blue LEDs. Anyone have pics of what they look like with the green film scrapped off? I need help asap.

Im just wondering how to get inside and if the green film can come off without effecting the actual display. If it can i found some good blue film from Michaels craft store that i'll cut to fit and secure with scotch tape. That way the NEW film i have will compliment the blue LEDs i already have in the dash. Anyone PLEASE tell me how to do it...even better with pics. eric |

hey, i cracked 'er open and trade a'scrapin. no good. its like....... on there good and i think scraping will effect the actual numbers. plus u'll have to take the needles off to get to all of it and i wouldnt suggest that from what i've heard. i really want that stupid junk off but i dont think it will. i may put dj lighting gels behind it to mix with the green and make it more blue. i kinda like reverse glow gauges but they need to make them in black

If you put a red film on the back would it make the whole gauge cluster the same red color as the red-line area?

I replaced the green tinting in my last VW with blue and ended up with a funky hard to read color because the bulb emitted a strange yellow/orange color. That experience has me afraid to try it again, keep us posted how your project goes!

Do it in the parking lot, are you serious?! What kind of film should I get, should I just to go Michael's and see what they have?
And no, we dated for a bit but we are just friends, I am still looking for a gurlie gurl so if you know of any, send them my way. ![]() -Branden |

Is the film not just on the bulbs like it is in the HVAC?

u can't do anything about the film on the guage cluster. i know it sux. for the HVAC, u can just take out the green condom on the bulbs. there should 2 of them.

the stock gauge cluster is actually very easy to remove and take apart - two screws hold on the gray plastic "gauge bezel" and three screws hold the actual cluster to the dash- then there are three molex-style plugs across the top of the cluster. You'll have to tilt the steering wheel all the way down to take it out.
Once removed, nothing really holds it together except little locking tabs all the way around. If you need to get to the gauge faces, it's just a sheet of plastic but you need to pull out each of the actual gauges (two bent-in clips on each gauge holding them to the circuit board) and then gently remove the needles to take off the gauge face. |
