Ben, do you know which month it was, and I can take a look in my collection?

for what it's worth, I think the mag. was on shelves a couple of months ago...making it possibly the Nov or Dec issue, and I'm sure that it was the "STi wagon" that was on the cover.

I was all happy they had a modded STi, but when I saw the lights it was an 02-03 model

the current issue is supposed to have an ej20t swap into a legacy (yay!), but they skimped on the most important part... electronics (boo...).

Sure! but this might be easier:
http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0311it_sticonversion/

It was a November issue of Import Tuner. (I buy them for the Pics of Girls, I SWEAR.)
Its about 4 pages long, not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for in hindsight...

man that is a lot of work - but if u r only doing transmission swap - and leave the rear LSD alone, then u would probably only need the 6spd transmission and the shorter sti drive shaft right?

it would probably make ur lives much easier if u use the Spec C transmission, still 5 spd but still far better than stock WRX ... but if u dont need factory transmission, a change of gear sets would probably do the job

according to the guys here on nasioc, if i keep my r160 rear diff, i need to get a 3.9FD from a ej22 auto legacy/impreza. doing the sti r180 rear diff is very expensive.

i would need to use either a jdm sti driveshaft, or one from an automatic impreza. for some reason a usdm sti driveshaft won't bolt up

someone budgeted out the cost to buy parts and to convert a wrx 5spd to specC and it was cheaper to just get the 6spd altogether. buying a complete used one isn't too good because whatever is out there on the market is hi-mileage at this point

What about a custom driveshaft?
That would be cheaper than a new rear end, and easier than finding a good FD.

You'd still have the issues of the front axles though.....

I think regardless of any driveshaft issues you have to change either the rear end or FD so the front are rear match, no?

yeah the sti has a different final drive than the wrx. sti i think is 4-something. if i try to run an sti 6spd with a wrx FD something will blow up . i don't understand what this has to do with custom driveshafts. the few i've heard who tried chopping their stock driveshafts have had balancing problems

wrx driveshafts will fit the sti 6spd, but the shafts are not as strong. but wrx rear driveshafts will not fit an sti rear diff.
