Exclamation Off-impreza topic: LL Bean Outback $32k!??!?

Holy smokes. $32,000US for a Subaru?!?!?! I was at my local dealer last night and they can't *give* the cars away - there is no interest in the LL Bean Legacy/Outback V6 wagon. Too expensive. Most people with 32,000 will just go an buy an Audi A4Avant or a slightly used A6 Avant.

Wow. I would personally buy a BMW 325is for that kind of money, but it is apples vs. oranges comparision.

Did you look at it? It is a really nice car with cool options. I like the second sunroof. I'd get it if i were married with kids, and living in colorado. (Has to snow ALOT)

HA! You beat me to it! I was going to post this....
I was at the dealer yesterday and spoke to my salesman, (very cool by the way) and saw the L.L Bean. Because it's the first 6 cyl. that Subaru throws for the Outback, dealers are selling it above MSRP.

Another thing, expect the WRX to sell over $30k in the US. It's the first turbo w/ new fugly (my opinion) design. It's also going to sell over MSRP.
Ha! Good luck peeps! I'll stay with my MY00RS --w/ aftermarket turbo by 2001-2002.

I need to add this...whoever has market financial experience knows well that the WRX will NOT sell for less than $30k...and I'll take my chances to bite the bullet!

I did look at it. In fact, the salesman laughed at the car - "the stereo is worth a whole lot of money". Wayyyy too expensive for me, and the 2nd sunroof is a little too much for me. Nothing can justify a $30k Subaru wagon or for that matter, a $30k+ Minivan or Pickup truck.

I agree,

$30k is pushing it a bit for Subaru. I personally would shell out a little more and get the new BMW 3 series station wagons. Sweet.

You guys have to compare the Outback to a SUV not to the wagons. Price tag of $32000 for a SUV comparable with such luxury doesn't sound bad right?

Also, SOA sells more Outbacks than RS, so they will put much more effort marketing the Outback market than RS market.

Question

SUV??? Only 7.3" of ground clearance. What about the Passat 4Motion in that price range?
Don't know how much the Volvo X-Country or Audi All-Road go for. But 30+ for a Subie is kind of an anti-Subie statement, if you assume most people like them b/c of value & performance, not luxury.

I'll only consider the Outback to be closer to the SUV if I can split my pants climbing into it. hehe.

Big Elm...

The WRX will not be more than $25K. I've known financial experts to be off $20 million with a simple math problem, personally.

The LLBean outback price is not a surprisse. They said it would be about that much when they announced it.

The WRX price of around $25K has been told to different people by different Subaru insiders. I also belive that to be true.

You don't need to be a financial person to deduct that a more powerful engine isn't worth a $10K markup vs. the (New) RS Model.

The LLBean outback is the height of Subaru Creature Comforts.

It's a flat 6 not a V6

Anyway, I sat in the LLBean one the other weekend. It is a lot of money, I have a 97 Outback Limited and it listed for ~26K if I remember right. At the time it had as many options as you could get on an Outback. Outbacks aren't SUV's but they are a good alternative. I traded a 96 Jeep XJ in on the OB. The OB actually has a lot more usable room and is a lot better for everyday driving. I can't go rockhopping with it like I did with the XJ but since I moved to KS I haven't seen many rocks to hop

But like everyone says 32K is a lot of scratch, is it worth it probably, I thought it was well appointed and all. Still 32K.

He he.....Funny conversation. Why do I say that? Because the same topic happened a long time ago(1991/1992) when the SVX was introduced. "$30,000 for a Subaru? You must be crazy." Sure the SVX bombed when it came to sales #s but that was caused by a lack of marketing and not because of the SVX's 'bang for the buck' theory. With the new Subaru marketing I'm sure they'll have no problems selling the LL Bean edition.

B.C.

P.S. My '94 SVX LSI stickered at $33,000. Does that make any of you feel any better about the price of the new LL Bean -- lol
