Default Is there a difference from the Stock STI radio and a Stock 02-04 WRX radio?

Was told that the deck for the STI was only for the STI and didn't see how this could be true as the dashes are for the most part basically the same, if not the same.

I am going for the all stock just for simplicity and can get a 02-03 changer for about 250 where a 04 STI one is like 700.

I think there is no difference between the 04 WRX and STi.

There is a difference between the 02-03 and 04's. Only faceplate color and illumination. I could be wrong though. I just bought a 04 deck for my STi...Hope it goes in with no hassle...Good luck

Well from my experiance with the 02 dash the 04 Sti comes apart the same, and the din pocket looks the same, I guess I will find out when I take the dash apart to put in my radio.

It's basically the same POS. The main difference aside from the color is that the 04s have the amplified rear window antenna which gets powered from the radio, I'm not positive that the earlier units supply the necessary switched power output. Even if they don't you can always connect accessory 12V to the antenna power wire in the harness.

So does this antenna power issue need to be taken into consideration when installing an after market deck.

On an 04 with the amplified antenna you have to be sure to connect the switched power lead, usually labeled "power antenna", from the new HU harness to the factory wiring. If you use a standard adapter harness the connection should be made automatically but you want to be sure it is, or your radio reception will suck.
