tEkk,

* Make sure the connection is pushed all the onto the bulb.
* Make sure all your ground wires are tight and corrosion free.

Are you using stock wattage bulbs...??? Higher wattage bulbs can cause a bunch of problems. Melted wires, melted connectors & melted reflectors.

Regards,
Chris

SUUPPPPEEEER ancient thread but I am having exact identical problem and I checked connectors with no results. I notice that if I flip the headlight switch on and off a few times eventually the right headlight will just seem to magically decide to work. Any other ideas? Nothing else electrical goes out with it, just that one damn headlight every once in a while. I notice it happens more when I'm slowing to a stop in first gear. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Same here.
I engage/disengage the hand brake,it goes on...few minutes later,flickers out.
I can not find the cause yet.

Most of the time this kind of trouble is located at the connection to the bulb. You need to use a test light at least to check for voltage at that point.

I noticed that when I look directly at the front of the car the bulbs seem to be different colors. One is slightly blue while the other is a more typical yellowish bulb color, I'm thinking maybe perhaps the previous owner messed with the bulbs and maybe changed one and not the other? Or perhaps the car was in some kind of accident where one bulb or headlight housing was replaced? Could an electrical problem cause the bulb to become discolored? If not maybe an unsuitable bulb was used to replace the stock one? Hmm it seems like I have some diagnosing to do. Has anyone else experienced similar problems using a different bulb for the headlights?

It really doesn't matter what the color (color temperature range) of the bulb is. If it doesn't have a good power connection you got nut'n or a dim light depending on the connection condition.

Still no luck. I ordered a new bulb to see if that would remedy the problem I've noticed that the only way to get it to turn on is by turning the headlight on and off with the handbreak switch. If I use the headlight switch next to the steering wheel it doesn't do anything not sure why this would make a differance but it may indicate some kid of wiring problem between the wiring from the handbreak? I don't know if that could even be a possibliry, this is really puzzling me any idea why only messing with the hand break would cause it to flicker back On and not the steering column switch?

the handbrake IIRC disables the daytime running light. so when you engage/disengage the handbrake, it is engaging and disengaging the DRL, which is why the lights turn on and off.

B00st3d is correct. The DRL circuit adds a resistor to the head light low beam circuit to reduce the current through the light and dim the lighting slightly. The trouble may be in the switching for the DRL circuit.
