I doubt you could get trade-in value even if you were selling it to a third party.

Question

I don't get what you are saying Aaron. I mean, that trade in value was the Kelley blue book trade in value. I always thought the blue book was an accurate reflection of what dealers were paying for a trade in.

It's an accurate general guideline, but the market is going to dictate what the real value is.

Actually, I don't think you will get more than $15K for a trade-in on a 00 2.5RS. I have a 99 2.5RS, and I took it to several Subaru dealers locally and got quotes of $14000 to $14500. If you want to sell a Subaru, do it personally. You will make much more money that way...

Nick,

What I meant is that while it is a good general guideline the last few dealerships I talked to before I bought my RS were offering $2000-3000 below low book for a trade in of an excellent condition low mileage vehilce.

Even finding interested 3rd party buyers is difficult when you advertised at much more than low book.

Maybe it is just the area.

Actually you would get a better trade in if it WAS an auto. Everyone can drive an auto, not everyone can drive a stick.

You'd be lucky to get $15k for a 2000, and if you have an auto - good luck.

hehe, 1 good thin about my slushy, better trade in value. EVERYBODY (dealership wise) always gives more $$$ for a auto than a manual. They like to have cars everybody can drive, they move faster, where as if you want a manual, the car sells it self, as evident by the dealerships having autos in the showroom. If you come looking for a manual, chances are you already know what car you are looking for, and what you want, so therefore the car sells it self. OPPOSITE is true of a auto although i know a couple of exceptions...not going to name names, me included.

I thought auto RS's were much harder to get rid of than the 5speed. I've heard of cases where an auto RS has sat on a dealer forecourt for months, while manual RS's were being snapped up.

yeah, becuase manuals sell themselves. The type of dealer who has to show someone a sports car in a manual trannie, should be out of a job! Manual trannies and sports car go hand in hand. The auto has to be "sold" if you will. BUT when selling used, they tend to get a higher price, because people who mainly buy autos think of them as praticle, nicley driven not beat on cars. I dunno how to explain it with less than 50 pages. All i can suggest is a class in business. OH, and i took one, and that helped as well...so who knows.

I sold my RS with a substantial number of modifications for $17,800US in Seattle. Just reaffirms the whole "you don't get back the money you put into it" thing.

Started asking $18,500, but I think tipping it over the $18,000 level put people off. It had 24,000mi.

Mods are listed in the WA State memberlist area (Greg Ipp) -- you'll see just how much money I lost

The new owner (Eric) should be on the board soon I think.

Greg.

Question How much is an Impreza worth?

Priceless! Nah but seriously I was wondering how much do they go for?
MY99 coupe, excellent condition, low mileage, all options - Trade-in: $16,700 Selling: $20,430

MY00 coupe, excellent condition, low mileage, all options - Trade-in: $18,400 Selling: $22,400

This is in miami. Can you say WOW! But how close to blue book price do you get? Can you really get a MY00 sold for over $20k?

Interesting point about auto vs. manual. The
trade-in value on my '93 SHO (5 speed) is several thousand less than the manual. This
might be car-specific, but in general an auto
has more acceptance than a stick- go figure.
Most drivers are not driving enthusiasts and
don't want to deal this a manual- probably
interferes with using the cell phone...
