Default where do all my socks go?

why do I have like 12 pairs of socks that are missing their other half

I have absolutely no idea where they end up... i scour my apartment, make sure the washing machine/dryer are empty when i do my laundry, yet everytime i wash i end up with a missing sock... what the hell?
