Lightbulb HID for home lighting?

Has anyone ever seen a high-end desk lamp using HID technology? I can see some Sharper Image desk lamp with HID, or a Torch floor lamp with HID bulbs. I'll be looking for it on "Cribs".

I remember that the lights in my high school gym were HID. There was a lable next to the switch stating that, and that they needed about 5 minutes to acheive maximum illumination.

There used to be a bicycle light made my cateye called the "stadium light" it was essentially a HID. It sucked because my work bench was facing the light display, I ended up wrenching with the dark lenses in my oakleys

HID has been around for a long time for home lighting.

(esp. in hydroponics)

you can get cheapo units at menards/home depot.

They don't call them HID's though.

There are HPS, Mg...etc.
