I'm planning to buy a 97 or 98 legacy GT wagon and I'd like to know if a ej20t from japan would fit in there and what do I need to do this conversion and if it's not the best idea what would be an easy engine conversion for this car.

i know that it is possible, but the wiring may be a little different. the forreter is a taller impreza, and the legacy is basically a streched impreza. if you really want to do the conversion, talk to the people at www.i-speed.com and www.rallispec.com. they are by far the best at swaps and wiring. another option is the leagacy twin turbo engine from japan. i found one somewhere, ill try to look. the wiring may be more of a hassle though
good luck. |

Actually the headers on the TT LEgacy engines will have fitment issues because of our LHD steering rack. It would require custom headers to drop in there. BUt the EJ20-T is put in the Lgecay in other workd markets and will fit, In fact in Australia and the UK, a Legacy GT is an EJ20 powered car. It would be no different than any other EJ20 swap, The only difference is you would need ot convert the Legacy wiring over to WRX wiring. If you have the wiring diagram from both the donee and donor, you should be able to wire it up. And like a WRX conversion on an Impreza, plan on spending a lot of hours doing the wiring if you haven't done anything like that before...

Thanks for alll the info, I knew the ej20tt wouldn't fit cause it's mada for a RHD. My plans would be to put a ej20t then but tje other thing is about the rear differential. The ratio being different on a wrx and a legacy and me knowing nothing about it what do I have to do? Fit a wrx differential or keep the legacy differential?

I'm no expert but I don't think it would matter if you're not changing the transmission.

All I can tell you is that a buddy of mine from Switzerland had a '90's Legacy wagon that came with a single turbo EJ20, supposedly the same motor as the WRX...
