Default custom tuning vs shelf maps..

Hello, I'm planning on doing engine management upgrade this spring and Im trying to decide if the custom tuning would really be worth the money for me.

Im looking at the access port from cobb vs a custom tuned vishnu from shiv(xede?)

my setup:
perrin up
bosal down
stromung mid
sti muffler

I'm by no means finished upgrading. but feel I need to do the ECU before putting any other physical addons on. Im looking for an extremely reliable daily driver with more pep. please advise, sorry bout the n00b'ness.

I think the main question here is wot are your goals, long-term and short-term with the car? From wot I know each car (engine), although same make and model, run differently. Although expensive, dyno tuning gets the most out of your car. Is there anyone in your area that can tune a UTEC? If you plan on changing mods or upgrading often you may want to consider that.

someone mentioned to me that the Xede and Accessport use more features from the stock ecu, making them a Safer more reliable option.. I realy dont understand much of what im reading about these.. not enough to determine if this is true or not...
