i always try to come to a complete stop and pop it in 1st...(around stop signs and 4 ways)..
otherwise double-clutching to 1st @ 5-10km/h will do.. don't know if it's bad to "dog" the engine.. |

I think you mean bogging the engine.
Generally, you don't want to do this as it is stressful to your engine. An example of bogging or lugging the engine would to be trying to climb a steep hill when you're in 5th gear, going at about 70km/h. Your engine will not have enough power to make it up the hill without causing detonation and pinging. This is bad. If you're approaching a stop sign in 2nd gear, just coast in 2nd gear until you're almost at a complete stop. Press the clutch in and voila - you're done. If you don't press the clutch and your car sounds like it's about to stall, you're bogging the engine - that's bad. LaterZ! Darren!! |

Press brakes down lightly before the turn, then blip the gas to rev match into first gear with the same foot that's pressing the brakes. jk btw. |

What, you people don't actually stop at stop signs?
I generally try to stop at those red signs, and when I leave from a standstill I use 1st gear..... |

I never put my car into 1st gear when aproaching a stop. I usually downshift to 2nd gear and press in my clutch when I'm almost at a complete stop (~5-10km/h). Only when I'm at a complete stop do I put it into first. LaterZ! Darren!! |

If you double clutch, from 4 to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd, you can just kind of pop it in, but from 2nd to first I find that if I do it, I just hold it firmly and it pops in, but not right away.
Yeah first is really tough to get into, but in parking lots now, I just stay in first. |
