Question Rear Turn Signal ?

Hey all,

Just a question about the turn signal in the 03 and 04 baja's. I still haven't gotten mine, but it is on order. But I reciently knoticed a couple while driving and was behind them and the turn signal and break light are the same light. I hate it when they do that. I know that it is suposed to make it easier for a trailer light kit. But most manufacuer's are now seperating them in their trucks. So to my quesiton, does anyone know of a way that I can change the lighting to have break lights and seperate turn signals in the back, say sharing the backup signal space?

Thanks,

Ben

Default It's Possible

I've seen this done on an older Caravan, where the reverse lights were used as turn signals, and yes, it works. You would need to replace the light socket with a 2-element bulb/socket to allow the reverse and signal lights to operate on their own circuits. Then, find what wires run the signals themselves and hook them up to whichever side of the socket you want them to run (there's a bright side and a dim side), and the wires for the reverse lights to the other. I haven't tried this myself, but the theory seems sound. Personally, I think it's more work than it's worth. I actually thought the clear lenses above the brake lights were the blinkers, but oh well, I do wish they'd separated them though.

I trid it on my old '83 GMC Jimmy S-15 and I found that the turning signal and break were comming on the same lines so I was unable to seperate the break and turn signal. But when it comes in I will experimant with it and see if it is going to be easy DIY project or a Pain in the A** to do it.
