Default 2004 STI Fuel Filter

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=fuel+filter

I read this thread and I am just trying to confirm what the fuel filter change interval is on the STi. I know it is 15k on the RS, and WRX. Has anyone found out if you can get it for less than $500?

....the filter costs a lot less than that....the fuel pump assembly costs abotu that much.

The filter change interval is 30k miles.

So do you by chance have the part number? I need to order one for my 30k tune up.

No, I went to the dealership to inquire about a fuel filter knowing full well that they don't offer it individually. The dealership confirmed that it's lifetime fuel filter, which I personally think it's stupid but maybe it lasts a lot longer in the tank rather than in the engine bay.

Man you can't have a lifetime fuel filter. Eventually everything will wear out. I mean will it work when I have 200k on my car?

Yeah, I agree, when U start modding you need to service these things more. The filter may last a lot longer because there's a pre-filter and it's cool so that the heat doesn't degrade/decompose the filtering element. Someone will make an aftermarket filter for these things.

...I might be tempted to bypass the one in the tank and put one in the 'traditional' place....

So how often should it be changed? All that it says on subaruparts.com is drain filter.

If you look in the manual that came with the STI,It clearly states what has to be done and when,R=replace,I=inspect,P=perform. If you
do not beat the crap out of it,I would think Subaru knows what and when to do it.The filter should be replaced at 60K miles.
Also if you look under the 30k collum,The plugs do not have to be replaced, the antifreeze does not have to be replaced, the gas filter does not have to be replaced. The dealers may do all that stuff at 30k,but SOA
does not say to do it unless you are using it
in an extreme manner.

For all those who have been wondering, here is the STI fuel filter. The part number is 42072FE020. It's $62 from subaruparts.com
