Thumbs down No oil left in a 2 month old wrx

I have a 2004 WRX, my first oil change was at 1600, subaru used 5-40 shell helix. I checked oil at 10 000 and oil was missing 1.5 Liters, I have no leaks, how is this possible?

Well, either somebody f'd up changing your oil, or you checked it wrong.
Was the car nice and warm when you checked the oil?
And please tell me you've changed it since the first change.

Where in NH are you?

Well the manual does reccomend every 7,500 miles to change it... So you cant be too hard on the guy. With a good synthetic under normal driving conditions I can see 10,000 possible.

Ok it was my mistake not to check the oil, I agree. That was a very stupid move, maybe I should have bought a golf or something like that. However Europen Subaru Manual says that first oil change and service should be done at 1600, second at 15 000, I usally change my oil at 5000, Subaru told me that this was unncessary and I shouldnt worry about the oil.

I apologize for my first post....
A new engine will use some oil during break in and it is fairly normal.

Take good care of your car and it will take good care of you.

No oil is a lot different than being down 1.5l.

1.5l of oil consumption over 8.5k miles is very typical of any engine.

You should be checking your oil level at LEAST every 500-1000 miles. I try to check mine every other gas fill-up. Only takes a minute to do while filling up the tank.

BTW, if you're going to run longer than 7500mi oil change intervals, I highly recommend getting your used oil analyzed by the lab (I use Blackstone Labs) to make sure those intervals and the oil you're using can handle the type of driving you're throwing at it without breaking down or using up all it's additives.

I change my oil every 2000 miles, without hesitation. And it's usually spent when I change it.

Me too... I ran my personal car extremely hard... Id drain oil out at 4500 or 5000 sometimes that still looked new!

It is a waste to overchange your oil. (unless you own a jiffy lube store lol, THEN ITS EVERY 3 months or 3000 miles!)

Its just a waste, there have bee a lot of stuides showing that some synth oils may infact work better after the 3k mark. Also just because the oil is dark doesnt mean its ' spent,' send it in for Oil Analysis to see whats realy going on in there. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
The best place for oil info.

I change it at work. Costs me about 20 bucks depending on the oil.
We change turbo cars every 2500, NA cars every 5K. I was told (by a master mechanic) to change it every 2000 because I drive so hard.

A new car will use up some oil during break in. That's normal. If your oil consumption continues to be that bad, then its time to check it out.

every 2000 miles is very excessive for oil change. I also wouldn't go 7500 between changes especially if you drive hard. I generally change at 4-5k. You have to remember that its not just the oil that degrades, but the filter is also a big part of the equation.

They're about the same, a quart is a drop less than a liter.
