Post WRX "spats"

Someone told me that these spats act like mud guards, while allowing air to flow through the middle, allowing proper aerodynamics, without an increase in lift. Is this true? Look at the pic, it looks like it could be true.

I think they're purely for visual effect. How would they work as mudflaps or have any aerodynamic qualities (except maybe a lil bit of air drag)?

Aero dynamics??? I really don't think so. Those are mainly for looks, and you gotta admit, with the side skirts painted and the spats painted, it really helps the visual balance of the subie. (the stock RS looks front heavy, due to the fact that the front dam is low, the side skirts are low, but the rear is high, with no kit or skirts...) I don't get why subaru didn't spend the $30 in plastic to put it on the car...

Looks only. No way those could help aerodynamics. I think they'd help my car out a lot... I have the black bumper protector strips on my rear bumper, and it does look a bit goofy. I want the spats, anyway.

One thing I have to say, guys: I hate that WRX spoiler. The thing's just WAY too tall.

I just got them in the mail and the packaging straight from FHI says "Splashguards"

I was thinking that since they are placed directly behind the rear wheels, they might prevent debris from getting thrown up behind the tires. Anything that is placed behind the wheels prevents the launching of some debris, right?

My guess would be to guard the paint on the bumper. Easier and cheaper to pull off the guards and paint them instead of paining the entire bumper if stones hit them.

That looks like the Prodrive wing designed by Mclaren F1 team. Available thru Rallispec or SPD.
