Default Replacing stock 98 OB Ltd Head Unit

OK, here's my situation. I've got a 1998 Outback Limited with the stock Double-DIN radio, and I just got a deal on a Pioneed DEH-P7400MP from a friend. For anyone who's done a similar install, I have a few questions:
1) Will I need a new bracket for the Pioneer unit, or will the stock Subaru unit's brackets work?
1b) If the stock bracket will work, I know I need different screws (The screws attaching the stock bracket to the stock HU are too thick to fit in the holes in the Pioneer unit). What size screws did you use?
2) Anything else I need to watch out for during the install?

I think you'll need a new bracket. I could be wrong though.. it's been a while since I did mine, and I replaced my stock '97 HU with the WRX 6 disc changer, so it's still OEM subaru.

There are two hidden screws at the top of the ashtray securing the stock HU into the console. The Hanes manual I had didn't mention those and I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what I had missed, tugging, pulling, and almost cursing.

Well I got the new HU installed more or less without issue. I ended up ordering a Metra DIN-Pocket online, and it came with enough screws to secure the head unit as well. Yes, those ashtray screws are a total pain in the ass. The Crutchfield master sheet I obtained mentioned that there were screws there but didn't say there they were, and up under the ashtray is the last place I would've looked. A few things I noticed:
1) Mount the new Head Unit on the bottom part, with the DIN pocket above it. Otherwise you won't be able to really mess with the HU (including changing CD's) if you have a drink in the cup holder
2) The stock bracket worked just fine
3) It looks like I'll have to do a little bit of trimming of the Wood-grain bezel around the stereo to get the piece to fit around the thin plastic bezel around the detatchable faceplate.
4) Subaru's have too many damn screws! We must've removed at least two dozen to get to the radio bracket and to remove the center console (to run wires to the trunk area).
