same as RS? I am one of those that will change the oil at 1000 miles and since I have 1200 it is time...
Subi dealer parts are closed... so I was looking for Purolator Pure one.. Any ideas input? Does Subaruparts.com have it? if yes since now they need part number anyone knows it? Cheers T. [This message has been edited by titsataki (edited April 15, 2001).] |

This is covered in plenty of other places (WRX forum and turbo powertrain I believe)
Anyway it's the same filter as the RS, it's also the same as the Acura Integra, 2nd gen at least (1990-1993). Not positive about 3rd gen, but I'd guess so. |

FYI ... it varies by manufacturer. For FRAM the filter is the same for Hondas and Subarus, but not on the Purolator line. Since Purolator is the OEM manufacturer for Subaru "Genuine" oil filters, I installed a Purolator filter in my WRX. Couldn't find the PureOne for our cars at Pep Boys -- please post if you find a source!

Looking at the dealer Acura filter and Subaru filter side by side, they had the same thread, and also the same sealing o-ring size. I didn't measure them, but I mated them and eyeballing, saw no obvious discrepencies between the two. I was doing an oil change on both cars the same afternoon, so had the chance to compare them.
I'm not sure any of the rest of it matters really. Why would it? You can thread it and you can seal against the surface in the proper place. Unless it's a clearance issue or something on the inside that would make a difference, but I can't think of a reason either would be different. Unfortuantely I recycled the filters, or I'd take some pictures. Probably Purolator just doesn't want to cause confusion, so they keep different part numbers. Since the subaru filters have a Subaru name on it, they have to have different part numbers anyway. According to the Mobil1 oil filter database, the SVX filter is the same as the Integra filter. Are the SVX and Impreza filters the same? They don't list anything for Imprezas for Mobil1 filters. Edit: Looking at PureOne filters on the web, the SVX and Integra have the same part number, but the Impreza is a different one. Interesting...Clearance is the only reason I can think of that they'd be different. Someone look at the 14459 (Integra/SVX) and 14460 side by side and let us know what the difference is. Both the Purolator and PureONE filters use the same numbers. If I'm in a PepBoys or something in the next few days, I'll let you know. FYI -- Amsoil also lists identical part numbers for the Integra, Impreza, and SVX. [This message has been edited by Concillian (edited April 16, 2001).] |

Whats the burst pressures of brand X,Y,Z? (seen them near explode on VW diesels) What's the bypass valve relieve pressure in the base of the filter? What's the filtering ability of the element? Is the element retained inside the filter adequatly? Why do some suppliers have different nos? My Mom says stay OE no matter what you own. Lots of problems with cheapo type filters. I have seen the filter paper get loose and migrate into the oil galleys. OE are so, and brand X ain't going to make you go faster anyway, and may screw up a warranty. Just my 2 cents

This was covered in the STi-mlist a few years ago. The SVX filter has an anti-drainback valve whereas the Impreza's does not. The use of an anti-drainback valve will not be a noticable problem, but could result in less flow than OEM spec.
In other words, FRAM is cheaping out by not bothering to make a filter specifically for the Impreza. |

so do you guys have a part number for the Purolator Pure one?
I no longer use frams. I thought Mobil 1 filters are history. I could not see it at kragen. Please let me know... need to hit that oil change this weekend. Cheers T. |

PureOne # is on their site, # is PL14460, normal Purolator is L14460.
Though if the only difference is the anti-drainback valve, then you should be able to use the 14459. IIRC, the anti drainback valve is mainly for cars with a horizontal sitting filter so you don't drainback the oil through the filter the wrong way when the car is off. Unnecessary on the Impreza, but it shouldn't be a major impedence to flow, especially if you're using the PureOne, which should have better flow charactersitics over the stock filter anyway. |
